Just wondering how much formula your FF babies ate on a daily basis?

Plunket says she should be taking a minimum of 115mls 6 x per day making it 690mls total. Even with her snaking habits, I can't get more than 450mls down Madelyn in a 24 hour period.   I'm a bit concerned as it's a good 2 feeds down. Just a bit worried about her not getting enough and also dehydration but i've tried everything and she wont eat anymore!!!!

The formula equation I was given by my MW (and my plunket nurse) was their weight x 150mls / by number of feeds in a day = how much they should have at each feed. E.g 3.3kg x 150mls = 495mls / 6 = 82.5mls per bottle.

I used this to about 12 weeks and then just went with whatever he would take according to the formula tin.

What is her weight doing? Has she been putting on enough? It's only a guide and a lot of babies don't seem to scull the recommended amounts.

Haven't checked in a few days but she didn't gain any for 8 days. Had her at the doc and she went all limp and wouldn't make eye contact. Doc checked her out and she is fine. Lots of full nappies with clear wee.

Just feel like she should be taking more......Then again, we've finally sorted out her winding issues so she's not screaming 9 hours a day like she was. Mum seems to think she's playing catch up as we can't seem to keep her awake for feeds. She's alert during the day though. She will fall asleep on us but it's still near impossible to get her into her bed. We've recently stopped using Control Crying as i'm not happy with it for a variety of reasons but perhaps a month of it has made her clingy as she's worried we will make her go to bed and cry??? Not sure if they're that aware or if perhaps she's made a negative association with her bed?? We're taking the nurturing approach (rock and hold to sleep) now and it seems to have calmed her right down.

Caden started off drinking 120-150mls about 6 times a day, but he didnt always drink all of it.
If her weight it rising well then I wouldnt worry too much, all babies are different, and just cos plunket say she *should* be drinking *this* much doesnt mean she will.

Hi, my bubs is just over 4 months old and we are up to anywhere between 750 to 880 (just climbing now to the higher figure). I too used to stress about the figure I was suppose to hit according to Plunket!!! Around xmas I was told to fed every 3 hours - this resulted in a baby who slowed down eating (so a fed was taking anywhere between 1-2 hours), in that other time I was suppose to do play and sleep! and them the cycle would start again. Bubs used to scream, arch her back and absolutely refuse to fed. I had bubs to the docs five times and was diagnosed with an ear infection (3 lots of antibotics) still no better, on my last visit the locum doc asked what I wanted them to do!! After a failed attempt to get away we decided enough was enough and turned the car around and went straight to the hospital! Finally someone listened and we where admitted for two nights and I got a diagnosis of silent reflux. I also realised I wasn't the only one out there with this problem as I met another girl who was admitted for the same problems.   The hospital staff were great and hands on on getting us back on the right track. We where given meds, and some feds are the stand and rock method - the most unpleasant time for us at the hospital was the starving (thank god I only did it once) this involved missing a fed almost. I'm happy to say things are a lot better - noticeably the arched back has gone - some feeds are still the stand and rock method and she is sleeping a lot better too. I have had to learn to stop forcing food onto bubs (this I feel started because I had to reach that quoted number as advised by Plunket). Now if she pushes it out more than twice in a fed I don't go back - so if she chooses to have 90mls thats it for the fed (some days we get one at 220mls), luckily she is a lot happier at fed times and is a lot more alert and looking for her feds and after a follow up visit with the hospital the other day they are really happy as well with how much bubs has changed (if your not happy maybe see if your doctor will refer you to the hospital)   I also used to have problems with sleeping (mainly cause I didn't have a clue) but I found this site great at helping me thesleepstore.co.nz    Hope things improve, good luck
