Hi guys,

I've been having braxton hicks since last thurs (23 weeks) and I'm not sure if this is really early or not? I had them "early" with Jake but I can't remember when that was ... and got lots just before going into labour at 32 weeks (hence my concern if they are coming early this time!?!?! I didn't have Jake at 32 weeks, but did spend 5 days in hosp on drugs to stop the labour, then 2 months on bedrest .... so Im at an increased risk of pre-term labour this pregnancy).

Am I worrying about nothing? Is it just cos this is my second pregnancy ... or could I have had them this early last time too ... ?

I'm seeing my GP (LMC) tomorrow so will talk to her ... but I just hoped you ladies could put my mind at ease ....

Nikki, one of my books says that you can start having them really early on so I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Remember that they are just your body practicing and not related to the real thing. Hope your LMC can put your mind at rest.

Nikki, mine started at 20 weeks, I would get them all throughout the day especially while working.. TraceyA is right, your body is just practising, its a good thing

I find they are a great way of prastising breathing techniques (my own, self taught lol) for labour... just deep breathing... and they also serve to remind me that yes there's action happening in there - as if the huge bump isn't clue enough!

Also, remember that every pregnancy is different.. although you could be at risk of pre-term labour, I'm sure you are equally if not more likely to carry to term.. Try to relax (as much as you can, I know it can be hard),
and good luck.. although I'm sure you won't need it

I got them early on with Caden, i asked my MW why my tummy always really tight and she said that is BH contractions, some women dont even know they are having them, they just get a real tight tummy, like me

They start well before 20 weeks, just not everyone feels them.

Oh good. You guys make me feel better! Maybe I did get them this early with Jake. My sister seems to think she had them at 23 weeks with her bub and I'm sure she felt them after I did (we were pg at the same time). OK, will calm down now.

Spicy chick - they feel like your bump pulling tight (to me).

They really start that early? My tummy went tight 2 nights ago, it felt odd but it's only reading this that now makes me wonder. Could that be what I was experiencing does anyone think? I'm only 16 and a bit weeks

I still am not sure if I ever felt them lol.

I have been told that people that are on their second pregnancy can feel them a lot earlier just like the baby kicking??

I've just been reading that technically they start happening in the first trimester, around 6 weeks, but are too small to notice.
