Topic: Free View TV Posted: 11 March 2009 at 3:59pm |
I am wanting to get rid of sky and looking into getting free view sky is just to expensive but i have to try get hubby to agree to it. Wondering wat those of you out there think of free view and if its any better or worse then sky.

We got rid of sky because we just weren't watching it anymore and so got freeview instead. DH got a box off trade me for $50 odd and it's much better mostly from the no bill each month perspective. I will say that I miss certain Sky channels (UKTV and sport) but the rest was so a waste of time for us.

We have freeview and love it. DH made a media PC so I can record all my shows and avoid the ads
I only watch the basic channels so paying for sky was a bit of a waste when the main reason we got it was for the reception quality.
Also when I rang up to cancel Sky they pulled an $18 a month package out of the box which is just the basic channels I think. And she gave me a few free months too.

We aren't getting freeview until Sky fulfil their promise and put Prime on there. (might be waiting a while aye?)

We have Free View at the bach for the reception, it seems fine though. We have Sky at home and get our moneys worth as DH watches Sport whenever he can (even if it is tiddliwinks! ) and I watch alot of the extra channels (Box, UK etc). Before we got Sky we considered FreeView but I watch a bit of Prime so went with Sky instead.

I'd really recommend Freeview - I particularly like Channel 7, it has lots of old school and newish NZ docos on it, and Media 7 etc. I do wish that we got Prime though (especially now that Flight OTC has started!)
DH hooked ours up, but he is very techie - I wouldn't be able to do it (I wouldn't be getting up on the roof, for starters!)
We got the Freeview equivalent of MySky (PVR) - the box was expensive, but since it's an upfront cost you save a lot in the long run, from not having Sky. I love being able to FFwd through the ads and it's easy peasy to record and play back stuff, plus the picture quality (HD) is superb, my BIL has a basic FV box and there is a big difference.
ETA: I should mention that we used to have Sky, but we found their programming pretty useless; we'd only watch the free TV channels anyway and I resented paying a subscription just for sharp picture quality.

We have both (as we have poor reception here), we have sky in the lounge (and also hooked up the tv in our room), and we have the free view (we got it from TM for about $50) in the bedroom as well.

Our Sky is finishing up on the 1st of April - we just need to get the FreeView box.
I had the $18/month package offered when I cancelled too. When I refused it nicely she offered it for 2 months free. I still said no and she got a little snitty.
Ah well. I'd prefer to spend my $65/month on caring for my child
Although, I will miss Prime!

We had Sky, but same problem too much was being repeated and too $$.
We still have to get a Freeview box as our reception is not the best but can deal with it for now. I will be wanting the HD box and that will be $300+

We were going to get rid of sky so we bought one of the most expensive freeview decoders $500+, then got a new aerial installed $300+ & ended up not cancelling sky as the kids & us would miss some programs so we waited till sky was HD and changed to that. Also we had paid out $600 when mysky first came out. So all up we wasted heaps on freeview & will stay with sky.
