I feel achey lower abdo. I've been feeling it for the last few days. I wouldn't say they are cramps and there's no bleeding. Is it anything to worry about? I read somewhere that it's normal to feel some tummy aches and lower back aches because your uterus has gone from the size of a fist to the size of a grapefruit by 8 weeks and that it would be normal to feel tight in your clothes etc.

But I can't help but worry, it's not a very comfortable feeling - and I feel huge. HUGE. If I am 6 wks as the Dr thinks, or 8 wks as it could be - surely I wouldn't be feeling big?

There is a lot happening down there girl! I found I felt pretty 'heavy' for a while at first, like period pain. If you're worried, chat to your doc, but it sounds very normal to me......
Congratulations!

How long did you feel like that? It feels horrible? I rang a midwife that I spoke to earlier today (thinking I might choose her as my midwife) and she said that unless having horrible/strange eg. green discharge or bleeding, not to worry and just to rest.

It is a "heavy" feeling like period pain, and uncomfortable. How long does it last?

I don't remember how long it lasts but it can come and go... sorta like every second week for the first 10 weeks or something?? But then if you get nausea as well you might just not notice the heavy feeling lol

I've had the same thing. Plus it's tender if something accidentally pushes on it, such as my very bouncy fur kid. I'm at 21 weeks. I just put it down to stretching muscles and skin etc...

hi ladies, im pregnant with my second baby and havent had to much pain this time, but with my first i had mild cramping/aches all the way through, like period pains, i think its all the stretching which is why i dont feel it this time, my little one is only 9 months so i reacon im still pretty strtched in there!!!! the next 6,7,8 months will be a constant worry for you but just keep talking to people about all your pains, pregnancy is an amazing thing to go through but i reacon its also the most terrifing time of your life, how many weeks are you? im almost 8, i have my first midawife appointment this week, i cant wait it makes it a bit more real seeing her.xx

I'm 6-8 weeks and hoping to see my midwife (when I choose her) this week as well... I'm really looking forward to it, too. I am learning so much! Today my sister-in-law said that you shouldn't sleep on your back when the baby gets heavy because it can damage the placenta. There's always something new!

Yes I feel worried about everything. I must be a neurotic mother-to-be!! Everyone says I should just relax but I guess I just want this baby so much, I just want to protect it with everything I can!

I really do hope that these pains/heaviness does not last throughout pregnancy - it's uncomfortable! It is like period pains, which is why it's hard not to worry. Who wants that kind of pain for 9 months??
:(

The midwife says I should rest but if I rest all the time it's achey, I'd never get anything done!

Welcome to pregnancy babe!!! brace yaself
They say if you breeze through pregnancy with no pains or aches, it catches up with you at the birth, so think it as a good sign.

In regards to the sleeping on your back thing- Not 'strictly' true....
The placenta- is in a different place for everyone- yours may be at the front, so it wont matter a dime either way- you'll find out at the scan where it is....
BUT- What ussually is the concern is the main artery running down the right side at the back of your pelvis, then leg..... if you lie on your back, this can be restricted of bloodflow, and therefore oxygen, eventually decreasing oxygen to the baby. However, we have a natural response of waking up and feeling queezy/lightheaded/uncomfortable, before it becomes a problem to baby.....   So dont worry too much, esp at this stage...... You will know when its a bad idea to lie on ya back.
I was worried as lying on my back was the most comfy for me (not now) and the Ob said to go with what was comfy as your body will tell you if its dangerous.

That was long winded sorry.

I know what you mean about learning a lot- theres heaps they dont tell you before you get preggo!!!! wee surprises

Ain't that the truth! Last time was an absolute breeze and I had a rotten birth experience. I'm only 9 weeks and already this one has given me a massive heartache so I should be in for a "cough and out" birth

My last pregnancy the pains were quite painful about 5 weeks.......i had to take panadol and actually thought i was miscarrying they were that painful.........

Its funny cos even though my scales say im 2kgs lighter, i put some jeans on and i they felt so uncomfortable around my tummy..........i cant tolerate any pressure around my tummy at any time............

Well, after a big run in with my MIL (who practically attacked me for an hour!) I had pains that turned to bleeding and I ended up in hospital with a threatened miscarriage. Fortunately despite a very traumatic day and night, the scan the next morning turned out fine. Baby was in the sac and we saw the heart beating :) But discovered I was just 5wks and 5 days.

I seem to not have so many aches any more, only when I get stressed again, so I don't know... the Dr said not to worry unless I had the bleeding as well (especially the combination of the two).

One thing I have told hubby is I am not seeing my MIL for the entire pregnancy. It's just not worth it.

Glad everythign is ok Newlywed. And yes don't unnessacerly stress yourself out with MIL seems to have done!

I still have the aches sometimes but organs have to move round to make room for baby so figure its all normal.

Best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy.

oh the tummy pains!!! I'm feeling it too. I have been since Monday Its lower tummy and both sides of tummy and even upper tummy if I've eaten within the last hour or so.
Monday I was constipated as well and I could feel it on the left side of my lower tummy. But since then I have taken lots of pills and things and seen my GP and spoke to MW and been to the toilet. I am on antibiotics as well for UTI which may not be helping and the antibiotics have brought on Thrush as well.

So quite bad tummy pains, constipation, thrush, increased nausea - I am not in good shape its the first time I actually think I might vomit. I'm trying a little ginger beer.

I find lying down helps (but not practical when at work). Any other suggestions of relief? Apart from bleeding (which Thank God I dont have) is there any thing that I should be worried about? Or do I need to just suck it up?

Cheers

I don't think you need to be worried, unfortunately it's all part of it. I'm constipated too but I'm not under a midwife yet so I just have to increase my fibre and water and fruit and I haven't been good with that since I've been quite nauseous.

Normal to get a UTI and Thrush and constipation... Constipation is something high levels of oestrogen causes apparently, so it comforts me to know that my hormone levels are good....

One midwife I was talking to over the phone said tummy pains are normal when ligaments are moving around getting ready for baby. I feel it on both sides too... and at the top of my tummy too... so you're not alone, don't worry. So long as there's no bleeding. The midwife said to lie down and take it easy with a wheat bag and even panadol if the aching gets bad enough.

I vomited for the first time tonight (but I have had lots of increasing nausea). After having a hotdog. Was stupid having a hotdog anyway...

But I get nauseous when I'm hungry, nauseous half way through eating something.... and random nausea.... but so far I've been lucky with the vomiting thing but it's early days.

Sorry about the ramble!
