What are your opinions on a photo wall.

I am moving soon and thinking about finally getting my photo wall together. I am not sure whether to pick all the same frame (different sizes of course) or get several different kinds of frames.

We are a young family so will be changed over the years if that makes a difference.

Would you have matching frames or all different frames?

I heard that different frames are better because then you don't have to match them if you add some later.

Speaking from experience I'd say that's true but I did all mine matching and found some really good basic ones at the Warehouse for $2 - $10 a pop depending on size. So if you bought heaps to start with it would be ok I reckon.

Matching with different sizes does look really cool.

Mine are all black frames with black matts.

I like the idea of matching with a few different ones interspersed.
You'll probably find over the years that you won't be able to buy the exact same frames again, just something really close to it. If it were me, it would bug the crap outta me, just knowing they're not *quite* the same

I always like the look of photo walls but not sure that I can pull it off. I guess if you picked a colour for frames e.g black, silver, white and then stuck with the colour then you could have all different but still in the same theme.

This is what I would do as you never had to worry about buying the same frame.

Hmmm, might have to think about it....

Yeah I would totally pick one common colour ie. Black or one common style and then do a whole variety of frames making sure they all have the one thing in common.

Ohh, yes please, would love to see peoples examples.

As to how to put it up....hmmm, I suck at doing it myself...let alone explaining it to someone!

Copied from the Frequently Asked Questions in the Forum Guidelines

How do I post pictures?

First you will need to upload the pictures somewhere else on the internet. Try for example Photobucket, Flickr, or your Facebook account if you have one. Some of the photo sharing sites (including Photobucket) will provide IMG code for you to copy and paste. Otherwise you can post any pic from anywhere on the internet by right clicking on the picture, selecting Properties, copying the address details that come up, then use the little button with a pic of a tree on it to the top right of the post reply box to paste those address details. (Or simply enclose the address between [ IMG ] and [ / IMG ], without the spaces.)

You can test that you've entered the right code by clicking on 'Preview Post' before you post your reply.

In the new place, mine is going to have completely different frames in different colours and sizes lol, just because thats what I have around!

My mums is awesome. She's used a massive piece of small holed trellis (so that doesn't make sense...), stuck on a few mini frames and a whole load of wooden pegs, and pegs on photos/certificates etc. I'm not that crafty though.

I'll get a photo when I'm there for those interested.

Went googling:

This is how I want mine:

I love the idea of combining photos with vinyl lettering. There are some awesome examples of that on trademe

Oh I see, What a great idea!!! I do like the black and silver frames, goes well with the B&W photos.

I used to have a "wall of shame" photo board, where I cut out 10x10cm scanned photos and pasted them onto a black thick board, looked really cool and was always commented on.

I hate having my photos stored away in photo albums and digital frames are nice but quite small.

That looks great, especially on a staircase. I think the matching frames look tidier at different sizes

Oh I like Booboo's example on the stair case - I have just brought some frames and am starting a photo wall. I brought some from Mega Mitre 10 (black with abit of grey) in the bigger and smaller size and then I went to the Warehouse and got some bigger ones in black with grey as well, and some glass framed ones too. I am going to mix and match as I'm picking as you add over the years the styles with change. I'm going to do the wall in just B & W as I think they look awesome! Isn't it fun. S

Floss thats good to hear, we are on a super tight budget at the moment and I wasn't too keen on forking out for some, but if it's good and it works it may well be worth it We'll probably just get family done all pretty :)
