Topic: Am I too Skinny!? Posted: 09 April 2009 at 11:12am |
Four times this week I have asked if I am eating enough, anorexic or I am just too skinny.
I dont think I am, I am just a little person.
I eat a fairly balanced diet, probably could eat healthier. I hardly excercise other than chasing after the girls. I dont eat heaps but I eat my fair share. I still even have a belly left from carrying 2 big babies. Grr I even got asked if I were pregnant this week?!?
I know I do have trouble even fitting into a size 6 but I am sure all sizes are getting bigger .Maybe I should just eat more to shut people up but then I dont want to end up unhealthy. You cant win, you are either too small or too big... No one can be just right ?
I know I have lost some weight since having Maddi (heck I lost 4kg of baby) And now I have slowed down with the breast feeding, there is nothing left in that area. I have been smaller.
Grr sorry for the rant. I am just so frustrated right now

Well that depends on your frame you might be the right size for that. I have a larger frame so me in a size 10 or even a 12 just wouldn't work i would look terible. Dman wide hips oh well i'm sure they will come in handy one day.
Have you checked your BMI out its not perfect but its a good indicater. I wouldn't worry too much it sounds as if you are eating well has your Doc made any comments?

You are so tiny Daizy - but you definately do not look unhealthy. You look perfectly in proportion to me
Me and DH were having a rant about something similar the other day, his Grandparents accused us (Us as in Me, Janaya and DH) of starving ourselves and being too skinny.
DH went wild, and said "I am the perfect weight for my height. Its because everyone these days are obese and skinny people are seen as being unhealthy"
I understand your frustrations, maybe its just a jealousy thing?

I just dont understand why people cant be more accepting of everyones sizes, no matter how big or small they are.

Hi Daizy, My best friend is like you, she is tiny and sometimes finds size 6 doesnt fit her. She does eat, and can eat quite a bit. she was always tiny but it seems after baby she has gotten littler and she cant put the weight back on. she sits around 50kgs and is 165cms tall or so.
I think even if you did try to fatten yourself up as such that your metabolism will prolly go fast anyway and you wouldnt put too much wieght on. As long as you are eating a healthy diet that does include some fatty stuff (like a good pork roast with crackling haha) then dont worry too much!

OMG Daizy, you are tiny! But sound very in proportion. I have a couple of friends are that about your size, and I wouldn't say they were too skinny, it's just there build. I'm jealous, I would LOVE to be that little! I'm really over-weight at the moment, but I'm 1.67cms so am taller than a lot of my friends and makes me feel like a giant sometimes. But that's not their fault (nor yours), you can't make yourself grow taller. Gosh I'd hate to have to answer to people asking about your size, rude!!
It's funny now that I've put on a lot of weight since having the kids, that people don't mention to me about my size. haha.

Its easier to do a check for BMI on an online calculator although i would take results with a grain of salt there are always exceptions to these things and they may make you worry for no reason.
As long as you are happy i wouldn't worry too much about it it sounds like you eat well you are just one of these natyrally skinny people.

I get this too Daizy, although I am a bit bigger than you. I'm 153cm and usually 50kgs but about 45 at the moment. My mum and my sisters are like this too but there is a stigma about being little, just as there is one about being over weight. As long as you are happy and healthy it doesn't matter what size you are.

Pre baby I was 42kg and I think 154cm. I was sooo underweight all my life I ate properly I excersized and did all the proper stufF. I could just never put on weight. I wasn't even a size 6 either. and I hated it.
I'm now 54kg and a size 10 with a mummy belly.
So no your not skinny. Your beautiful.

Daizy, you don't look unhealthy, you only look little! I envy you!
Your BMI I worked out to be 17.31 (its your weight divided by your height squared) so 40kg/1.52/1.52= 17.31
"Healthy" BMI is defined between 20-25 but there has to be exceptions, I mean, if you eat well and simply have a fast metabolism then you aren't exactly unhealthy are you? And even if you ate more, your metabolism would probably speed up even more. Catch 22 huh?!

Hmm BMI of 17, maybe that sounds a little on the small side.
Before having kids I wasnt exactly tiny, I wasnt big but was nowhere near what I am now. I had boobs and and a bum. Which is probably why people have noticed so much. And then going from being pregnant to not being pregnant makes it look like you have suddenly dropped too.
I probably dont eat that much but then I am only so big and dont have a huge apetite.

Having met you IRL Christy I would not say you're too skinny. I say you look fab
TBH I would not have put you as a size 6, size 8 maybe ( I hope you don't think I'm calling you fat ) You look healthy and are just a small, petite perfect person.

Snap Daizy! I thought I was the only one! I too am only 152cm and my weight pre-baby was around 45 - 48kg, and now I hover between 41 - 44 kg. Post-baby I lost my pre-baby 12Bs which are now a sad 10A!! I've always been little, it's in the genes (my mum's tiny). I hated it when I was younger especially pre-puberty because people thought I had an eating disorder (at like 10!!) which really annoyed me. It's not like I don't eat a lot - in fact I can surprise people by just how much food (not always healthy either) I can put away in my tiny frame. I guess I must have a fast metabolism. I think my BMI works out to around 18.5 - 19. I like to think I have a fairly well balanced diet. I don't make an effort to exercise but I do walk alot because I prefer to walk when I can rather than take the car. Mostly because I hate driving.
As for the clothes fitting yeah I find sometimes even I have trouble fitting into size 6 and I think too the clothes are getting bigger. The main problem is the rise and crotch in trousers because of being so short!
However despite being as small as I am I am actually really healthy. My iron levels etc are above normal and my cycles are regular, so no indication that there is anything wrong with me because of my size. So Daizy I guess little ladies like you and me have nothing to worry about. Our bodies may be little or "skinny" but they still manage to do what they're supposed to. You have 2 beautiful girls and I have my wee dot (and she's tiny too so going to be just like her mum!).

Wow, someone else exactly the same size! Yay
I have one good friend who is shorter than me, she keeps me feeling normal.
Totally hear you on the clothes thing.
I have real trouble with my iron but I dont think thats anything to do with my size, its more a hereditary thing. I try to make sure I eat a whole lot of red meat and vegies.
And I do wonder where my monstorous girls come from Both big babies, but they have slowed down a lot since then. Keira was once way below the charts in height and got plunket very worried, cant they see she has small genes.
