Topic: DH made redundant... Posted: 27 April 2009 at 3:03pm |
We pretty much knew on Friday, but DH has been made redundant (well is going to be, I think there are a few official steps they have to follow).
Bugger, bugger, bugger........

Thanks, we can live of my salary in the meantime but it is pretty crappy huh. Although, I know we are not the only ones that this has happened to and I'm sure we are better off than people who were already on one income etc, so something to be a little postive about I guess.

Gutted. So sorry to hear that summerlamb Good news that you guys can live off the one income OK for a bit, but it does suck that you have to. I hope another opportunity knocks for your DH soon!

Sorry to hear that Not a nice thing happening to so many people unfortunately.
I'm keeping my head down as the boss (my mother thankfully) has told me it's a matter of when, not if. Wish I'd known that before I got DH to impregnate me

Join the club, it does suck and being better off than most doesn't help. I was only unemployed for 1 month but I hated it.
Hope he finds something else soon, its not easy out there.

Thanks everyone, financially we'll be ok for now but he is just so down in the dumps and I can't say I blame him.
Jo, it would be nice to spend the redundancy cheque if we got one, he only gets 4 weeks notice and 4 weeks pay so that will be put in the savings in case it takes a while before he finds something else.
LittleBug, good luck to you guys, at least we still have my income, it must be very stressful for you, especially with two wee ones as well.
Emz, a bit too late huh, we only started ttc recently so there actually is a possiblity that I'm in that boat as well!
Mrsg1, I saw you've been laid off twice, that really sucks! Also that you have to work away from your DH now as well. Fingers crossed you get something up Fielding way soon.
Well onwards and upwards as they say!

summerlamb sorry to hear that.
I was made redundant May last year after 13yrs.
There is a new Redundancy tax credit you can get. I have just got mine, I was told I had to wait till the new financial year to get it but thats not true you can claim it straight away.
Down load the form on there site, fill out & send prof of redundancy pay. It works out you x your gross amount by 6% and thats about what you will get back (only up to $3,500. I think). So better than nothing. Also as he willed be paid out in this new financial year and not earned full salary he can get a special tax code so you will be taxed lower, (this helps if not going into a new job) I was to late to do that & now have to wait till Aug to see how much I am getting back. So have a look into it, & good luck.
