I was just wondering how any of you might be dealing with stress whilst pregnant.

Since getting pregnant myself and DH have been through hell with our business and I'm coping with the stress most of the time but sometimes I just find it really hard.

Normally i would have had a glass or two of wine to relax but being asleep seems to be the only time i get any peace and of course the tears come really easily! those hormones dont help!

Here is what I am doing.

Reading. I have been finding that taking time out to do something I love (which is reading) helps me no end.

We have been going to Mum and Dads once a fortnight for a yummy as meal cooked by Mum which really helps. Means I can just relax, not worry about dinner that night and they tend to entertain Char while we are there.

I have also been listening to my favourite songs to and from work just to get away from thinking about being pregnant and what I have to deal with when I get home.

Also, if I am feeling particuarly uptight, I take myself off for a shower. I don't personally like baths, but maybe thats an option for you??

I have had quite a bit of stress this pregnancy- my dad died a week and a half ago of cancer which was pretty horrible.

I don't know quite how, but I seem to be coping relatively well although I wonder if its a big avoidance thing and I am going to melt down later on.

I am missing wine!! But in all honesty i think its probably a good thing that I can't drink.

I have just been giving myself a break by not trying to do too much in one day, crying if I feel like it, going to bed early, and eating well.
Have also been walking every morning which I think helps, and reading and watching movies.

I also think talking about things with your friends and family really helps.

You and your DH may need some time out together where you ban all talk of your business- that might help too.

I hope you manage to relax a little more, and good luck for your pregnancy.

thanks ladies!

rescue remedy, I have some somewhere! i shall dig it out. i'm finding it hard to read at the moment although I love it. taking a bath is a good one, we're having stuff done on the house at the moment so everywhere is a mess, once that's done I think i shall stick that in my evening routine.

off to find the rescue remedy!

thank you

Lady Lizard,

so sorry to hear of your father passing away. My husband's father died of cancer a few years after we met and it's such a traumatic thing to go through. It sounds like your doing everything you can to cope with it best you can.

I keep telling myself we have our health and that's what truly matters. it does put things in perspective. life is always full of financial ups and downs. we've been through hard times before and come through. i think with the added hormones it makes it a little more emotional!

I have had so much stress since Feb, dad was in hospital for 7weeks, got diagnosed with chirosis of the liver, on top of his chrons, and all sorts of other stuff. Brother has had an episode, other brother has got his ex/gf I dunno what she is pregnant and shes been taking anti anxiety drugs and baby could be affected and all sorts of fun stuff. Oh and got made redundant from ful time work when I was 12weeks pregnant so much fun!

I have been coping with the help of DP he is my rock! Otherwise the thing that has been getting me through is knowing that I have to eat properly and rest properly to make sure that this baby grows strong and healthy.

Rescue remedy is a good idea too!

Thanks Disco.
I thought with all the hormones I would be a total emotional wreck, but its actually making my more stable, maybe because I am not getting upset about little things.
I also think I have switched to autopilot mode a little- its amazing what your body will do to protect itself and your unborn child.

I was quite worried that the stress might affect the baby, but I started another thread called "grief and pregnancy" and a few people have been through rough times and had healthy babies.

Hope things work out for you- take it one day at a time, that philosophy seems to work for me at the moment.
