 Topic: Bottom Balms?

Hello,
I was wondering what product(s) are best for a baby's bottom?
Our parents used 'Sudocrem' all the time, but there are now so many new products around, what is best for a babies bottom?
Do you put something on their bottoms every nappy change...is prevention better than cure?
What combination of products should we use, and how frequently? Does this change with age (i.e. what is best for a newborn, and what is best for a year old?)

When Mika was 2 weeks old, she had a slight nappy rash. Then the mum of an old friend of mine visited and saw that. The next day she was back with a jar of sudocrem and told me to put it on after every change. I have to admit I only put it on once or twice a day, but Mika hasn't had a rash since. So my guess is it's working. 
(The woman who put me onto the sudocrem babysits her granddaughter one day a week and was instructed by her daughter and son in law, who's a gp, to put the sudocrem on.)

Sudocreme here. Had a few cases where its looking a bit red, put some on and next day its gone.

sudocream here too, infact miss 3 has been licking her bottom lip and chin so much there was a dribble rash on it, so put some sudocream on it last night and this morning it was gone.
great thing about sudocream is that you dont need much

I use petroleum jelly or papaw ointment at every change (just a light coat) to prevent any irritation, and after immunisations I switch to sudocream to treat the rash.

I use Curash powder, which has worked well on rashes, and now I use it most nappy changes as a preventative. It's also great if you use cloth nappies, because then you don't have to worry about cream residue buildup. I also have some Tui bee bottom balm, which I use occasionally when he has a sposie on; that's also really nice to use, and also natural.

Hmm don't forget that airing baby out is good for prevention giving them some nakee time on the ground with towels and disposable change mat to avoid accidents is good for them.
