Baby Showers

I would really like to have a baby shower around about the 28wk mark and though it's still a little way to go I'm always thinking streets ahead.

I would like to celebrate the baby by having a shower, but do they have to be lame or obvious that it's about gift-giving?? To those who are thinking about having a baby shower or have had one:

1) Any GOOD games you'd recommend
2) Any ideas for how they could be done differently - I'd particularly like to find a way that I could make it really enjoyable and a treat for all the guests - but we don't have a lot of money to spend on it
3) Did any of you have a gift register or did you leave it open to your guests to bring what they like?

I didn't do any games at mine, had mostly family there and a few friends.    We just provided snacks and non-alcoholic drinks and some people brought a plate and others didn't. It was all very informal.

I told most people that they didn't have to bring a present but most people gave me one anyway.

Got given lots and lots of soft baby blankets which came in handy!

Oh and my mum organised my baby shower so didn't really have to do much myself.

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with getting presents at all, they aren't for you , they are for the baby , and why shouldn't your baby get something if people want to get him/her a gift ?

Imo, all coming babies deserve to be celebrated

My mum and a friend organised mine for Tyler (i cant even remember who came to Caitlyn's ) and we did a nursery rhyme game , a game where I was blind folded and had to guess the baby item , and the famous nappy game , where you guess what kind the baby food is, can also be done with chocolate .

But you can easily by pass all the games and make it an afternoon tea type affair or something, if your planning on finding out the sex and baby cooperates you can incorparate pink or blue into the day as well

Thank you! I really like those ideas!!! I think a pink or blue theme would be nice once I find out the sex of the baby and some little giveaways would be nice, too. Thanks for the reassurance re: the gifts. Yes, I'd forgotten they're for the baby rather than for me!! That's a good way of looking at it.

And I like the idea of giving things away to the guests as a little gift at the end. That's really nice. Thank you!

my mum organised my baby shower. My favourite game was that mum bought a pack of newborn nappies and all my friends had to write a message to me on them for the night changes it was priceless. Some of the ones i remember are you're this babies world' , 'i love you mummy' etc they made me really happy when i had to change his nappy alone in the mddle of the night and were a great encouragement. It was lovely.

If your friends are not very organised people is it totally wrong to throw yourself a baby showeR?

If I want one Ill HAVE to organise it. So many of my friends now live overseas or in Auckland so I seriously doubt Ill actually have one anyway. I really enjoy baby showers. They are such a cool girly event!!!

My husband organised a surprise baby shower for me. He invited the guests, organised games and food and told me the morning of it that everyone would be arriving at 2pm that day. What a sweetie, I didn't think I would have one.
