Looking around, I see the two main brands appear to be the medela (?) and the aventi - does anyone have any advice/preferences etc.

I my trusty Avent, it has seen me thru 4 babies, I hardly used it at all with Maya, used it to express for the gremlins full time for 10 weeks and am using it now to express milk for another wee bub whose mum can't breastfeed.

I don't have any experience with the manual Medelas, but I hired a double electric Medela when I had the gremlins and ended up preferring the Avent manual as the suction was very temperamental on it. I've used them since when various kids have been in hospital and found them much the same.

I've definitely got my $100 worth out of the Avent!

I have kebakat's Avent electric I haven't tried a medela but I find the Avent pretty easy to use - except at times it pinches the bottom of my boob and I can't figure out why yet!

I have a medela and it is fantastic. I am expressing for a friends baby and feeding my own son so it is getting heavy use and is still comfortable (as much as can be). It is also really portable which is great because sometimes you just need to be out of the house.

I have a Medela Pump In Style, and I love it. Either the Medela PIS or Swing are great if you are returning to work and need to pump a majority of your child's milk feeds for the day.
