Topic: Rotten Luck Posted: 22 June 2009 at 6:25pm |
We have the most rotten luck at the moment. When is is going to change??
Kylah has been sick all last week. She couldnt go to daycare and lucky my mum could look after her as im on an attendance plan at work as iv taken too many sick days. Makes me feel rotten. I dont get a pay rise this year because of it.
Last night Kylah didnt sleep at all!! She screamed most of the night away in pain as she had a sore tummy. She fell asleep at 6am and so did i, due to start work at 9am i woke at 8.15. I jumped in my car at 8.35 to go to work and had a flat battery!
What can ya do? I rang my mum as Kylah couldnt go to daycare because she is sick again and ran and got the bus, lucky DP was still home. Got to work at 9.06 and only had to make up the 6 minutes.
DP left with Kylah as i was finishing dinner to go to the supermarket and i rang him 30 min later to see why he was taking so long, i had dished up dinner. His key had snapped off in the ignition and he was stuck with no credit, and happy i called. So i had to ring my uncle and see if he could come round and jump start me as my battery was flat so i could pick them up.
We cant afford to get someone out to cut a key, or tow us. So the car is in the car park at pak n save, and if by luck it doesnt get stolen overnight, it will most likely get vandalized.
DP is in the building industry and we are lucky if he gets 3 days work a week :(
When will it stop? Sorry for the woe is me post!

Oh god that sucks!
I truly know how you feel though... our marriage is on the brink of ending, DH's car cost $600 to fix just before he left for 2 months (after we'd paid $200 to get another part fixed) then my car broke down in town the other day right after I'd received a massive bill I wasn't expecting and can't pay outright. My wood pile is diminishing so have to grovvel to my parents for them to buy us more otherwise we freeze.
Why does everything go wrong in the winter months when living is already more expensive?! I feel your pain love

OMG! That must have been scary! Sucks about the work too, luckily for us DH is in the army (well OK not luckily cos he's pretty much been gone since May but YKWIM) so at least he has a steady income. Mine on the other hand, I live paycheck to paycheck wondering when I'll be made redundant
kandice - ouch about your tooth! That must be terrible Sounds like if you have a CSC you might be able to get it fixed though so that's great
Argh isn't life just grand lol when it rains it pours

Horrible luck alright!! I don't know how you do it with a little one while working (I know its not by choice, but thats full on!!)
Emz your partner must be doing what mine is doing, hes away for 2 months also, in Trentham at the moment (ovvvvver ittttt), and just before he left the car crapped out also, will cost bout $400 to fix *gulp* so its sitting in the driveway... stupid cars. Hes due back week before Im due so hopefully I don't go early!!
Feel bit lost without him at the moment but also we are saving money, from petrol costs (which will be used to fix the crapper)
Hope things make a turn for the better for yous!

Reading through all these posts, makes you realise how some people are really put through the ringer when pregnant!
This year I would honestly say has been the hardest and most stressful we've ever had. Loads of reasons that I wont go into as its long, complicated and really boring. But we came close to loosing our house, business, car, the lot. Then found out we were preggers with no1. and it was awesome but we both thought sh@! how will we afford this.
Anyway what we did to turn around things is we sat down a made a list of what we would like to see happen for the rest of the year. I'm being realistic too, not winning jackpot dreams :) although you never know!
Then we decided that we wouldn't dwell on any of the bad stuff anymore, we would do what we needed to, to deal with it but we would just focus our attention on good things and turning around the situation we found ourselves in.
That was about three months ago. It works! we're still not in the greatest position financially but every day things are getting better and the future is actually looking really promising. Every day I say thank you for what I have and I remind myself of what we both decided we wanted the rest of the year to look like and day by day we work towards it. We've also started asking for help from people. We were always helping other people in the past and quite stubborn about letting people help us. I must say people can be incredibly generous and kind!
I know its hard to be positive when things are down but for me it worked wonders.
I hope things get easier for everyone on here! being pregnant is hard enough on it's own!

I'm so very sorry to hear that things are really tough at the moment and I pray things will get better really soon!
One thing I learned way back in 2007 when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer around 2 weeks before turning 4 is that "you can't choose what happens in life, but you can choose how you handle it".
Changing my attitude to life, the problems we had to deal with and actively looking for positives made the world of difference to us. It feels hard when you are in the situation, but when you look back, it is then that you often realise how much you actually achieved.

Lea - I definitely know that's true now!
When Jack's been in hospital a few times this year, it's really put things in perspective. Even though you think 'why us?' at least we weren't in the cancer ward. And when I was up in the middle of the night throwing up (morning sickness) while juggling Jack having his drugs for an hour, I knew that somewhere down that corridor, there were probably little ones having a hell of a lot worse time than us.
I was thinking the other day god I wish we could sell blood in this country - I'm sure I could con DH into doing it a lot as he sticks needles in himself at work anyway and then we could get some extra income! How the mind works at 4am...
Kandice did you get your tooth and the car sorted? Hope so!

Awww you had a sucky time. We had bad luck at the beginning of the year, well actually its still happening and its hard but you know what just focusing on this baby growing inside me has gotten through.
The car you should be able to get by until you have the money to by unlocking on the passenger side for the time being surely? Thats just my practical side working. Mum and dads car for some reason has this problem everynow and again where the drivers side door doesn't open cos the lock breaks down cos there is water damage etc. My poor mum has had to climb in the passenger side and climb over to the drivers seat. Shes not exactly a spring chicken at 63 either lol

Kandice do you have car insurance? We had the same thing happen to us a few months back at paknsave! Except our key got stuck and wouldnt turn. We ended up just having to get a new key cut, think it was $190 all up and that included the tow to the mechanics.

Hi everyone.
No we dont have car insurance. The car didnt get broken into or vandelized so we must have some luck.
It cost us $15 for a new key, and $15 to replace a tiny corner window we had to break to get back into the car. We couldnt afford to pay $190 to have someone come cut us a key then and there.
I was late to work, and Kylah hates her daycare now. Thats the only thing worrying me now.
She is supposed to be transitioning to the toddlers room but she stands at the door and screams and i dont know what to do.
My tooth doesnt hurt yet, its just broken so that can wait. Apart from that, today has gone smoothly. Thank god! I even got a power bill and only had $65.49 left to pay on it, i pay $60 weekly and have done since the day we moved in so we are always in advance, or by the time the bill gets here we only owe $50 or so dollars that usually is due to come out that day or week.
So in all.. its looking up, but apparently bad luck comes in threes and mines only been two days!
Thanks to everyone that had replied, hopefully everyones luck has picked up.
I bought a Big Wednesday ticket today with the coinage in our coin jar, so fingers crossed aye!
