Topic: B6 Side effects Posted: 24 June 2009 at 3:26pm |
Hi everyone
I started taking vitamin b6 in the last couple of days and have been feeling light headed and had a few headaches.
Are these some of the side effects from taking b6

Mmm I've been taking B6 for ages and don't have any probs. I've got rather low BP too so I tend to feel lightheaded if its a side-effect of anything. Sorry Oxy hope it sorts itself out!

Oxy what is the dose you are on? You should google side effects thats what I did when I started feeling unwell, I think it is better to take if in with other vits or low doses. Then you would feel ok.
Babe, you would be on a low dose I take it.
I used to take a pg & b/f one that was really good, but only taking folic at the moment.

Oxy, I read that the the maximum should be 100mg per day.
Babe, I will try and find the link but it could be detrimental to take to much B6 whilst pregnant.

Hi Girls
My Naturopath had me taking B6 (in the form of P5P) 50mg/day when we were trying to conceive, and also until the 12 week mark to support my hormone levels.
I was taking herbs also and had alot of side effects, but it turned out with a BFP and a very healthy 13 week old foetus so far.
Most of the side effects I googled and they had something to do with hormone inbalance, one of the worst was a burning tongue!! It lasted about a week and it was during the time I was not ovulating and the next month I did!

I was checking this out the other day & found this,
While you're pregnant, you'll need about 1.9 mg a day — about what you'd expect to get from eating a bowl of vitamin-fortified cereal. While nursing, your needs increase slightly to 2.0 mg.
I don't think it is something you should over take when pg, might pay to check it out.

Yay... found the link ...
http://www.birth.com.au/Vitamins,-minerals-and-supplements/Vitamin-B6-(pyridoxine).aspx
Conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding.Vitamin B6 is thought to contribute to the growth and development of new cells in your baby. Overdosing during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (more than 100 mg per day) may be linked to birth defects involving the baby's arms, legs and nerve development. Babies may develop a dependency and experience a 'withdrawal' after birth if their mother supplements daily up until the birth.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is often prescribed for morning sickness during pregnancy. There is some evidence that taking pyridoxine (about 10-25 mgs three times a day) may be effective in reducing nausea for some women, but not necessarily vomiting. Taking vitamin B6 at these lower doses is thought to be safe for the unborn baby. Check with your caregiver before supplementing. You should not self-prescribe vitamin B6 during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

ooh this is really interesting! this last cycle got to 50 days and i thought i needed to do something! it was mentioned to me by my nurse that i could be B6 deficient because of being on the pill for 10 years so got some - first day i just took 50mg and felt fine, then yesterday i took 100mg and this morning i have the runs! no cramping or anything like food poisoning or a bug gives you, so could this be the B6 telling me i took too much? ill just take 1 tab today just incase. day 55 today and had spotting overnight so yay! i guess ill never know if it was the B6 making m body come to the party but ill keep taking it and see if my nxt cycle is better!

I took 50mg per day before I got pregnant now I'm on 75mg. I didn't know how much you were taking Oxy but I assumed you were following the dosage instructions on the container which all keep you under 100mg per day. Obviously my assumption was right Has it settled down?
ETA spelling!

Hi babe
Yes it has. But now i think i got the flu lol
Hows ur pregnancy so far. Do you think we should set up a Morning Sickness thread
So people who have had it can give tips to everyone who is suffering from it at the moment.
And also would be good for the ones that get pregnant and would like to know what can help.
Because that was one of the annoying things that i found when i was pregnant was the Morning sickness. And wished someone would have told me what i could have taken.
