what are your views on getting girls ears peirced???

Im going to get Karmas done when she is 6-8 months old.
My mum got my older sisters done when she was 2 and she made such a fuss that mum then decided to get mine done earlier so i got mine done at 8 months.

My MIL on the other hand says she doesnt believe in getting them done before they are able to decide for them selves.....even though they are free to take them out at anytime! its not a tattoo...aparently MIL wont let my SIL (Whos 26!) get her daughters ears peirced (she is 5)....

there are alot of different views out there so curious as to what others think....

I feel very strongly that I will not be piercing my daughter's ears until she is old enough to ask and care for them herself. It's no different to getting any other part of your body pierced, and has the same risks. Getting them pierced at a chemists is incredibly dangerous, as they only use a new stud when they do it, and the gun itself isn't sterilised in a lot of shops. Why would I choose to risk exposing my child to blood carried diseases? I'd much rather wait until she's older and get them done by a professional piercer.

I work at a pharmacy and pierce ears. Most pharmacies around here won't do them before 5-6 years old. And not under 16 without a parent present to sign the permission documentation.

I use a modern gun that uses single use cartridges with the studs in them that click straight into the gun. So the piercer doesn't have to actually touch the earrings. The gun is always wiped down before use with a cleansing solution.

As to my personal opinion on getting children's ears pierced... I got my daughter's done when she was 2. But it was difficult finding a place that would do it that young. If I had to make the decision again, I'm not sure I'd get it done because she wouldn't leave them alone and kept fiddling with them.

My daughter's were done with two piercers doing them at the same time. It went fine. But niece's was done the same way and the piercers didn't have good timing and one was slightly delayed. My niece jumped and it ended up crooked. It had to be taken out and done again. So I wouldn't recommend that ever again.

I'm really old fashioned sorry - Rowan will get hers done as a mark into her double digits earliest and hopefully not until she's 13.

I was 5 when I got mine done, even though my parents had said I wasn't allowed my ears pierced until I was 13. But I went into hospital when I was 5 and mum said because I was so brave I could have one thing I really wanted, and I said I wanted my ears pierced so she had to give in haha. With regards to getting my daughter's ears pierced, I'll wait until she asks to get them done (assuming she does ask) which probably won't be for quite a few years!

I wasn't allowed to have mine done until I was 10. I'm pretty sure that was the phamacy and my mum's rules.
I'm not against it or anything , but don't see why someone wants to pierce their babies ears. They are babies....they are cute and beautiful and don't need earings.
I definately will not be having my girl's ears done.

Not really my sort of thing... My BIL got my nieces ears done as a baby.. she was maybe a year old. It looked cute and they never seemed to bother her at all, but personally I just see it as another thing to worry about eg.. if it gets infected.

We got Minardi's done around her 5th birthday, she had asked for them but the deal was we waited til she was 5.
Personally, I wouldn't pierce my baby. Like lilfatty said... it hurts!!!

Wee Karma is a cutie cute, she doesn't need earings

Sorry, I'm totally against it on babies so small - lots of reasons really.

Firstly, why?? Babies are gorgeous just as they are, and I really don't see the need to 'pretty' them up. For who's benefit are they for? It's not as if a tiny baby cares about having earrings.

Secondly, it can be dangerous unless you get them done by a professional piercer who uses a needle as opposed to a gun. Lots of health risks involved, and I don't see why you would want to expose your child to that for no good reason.

Thirdly, no offense, but I just think earrings on little babies look awful. I realise it is totally a personal decision so I have no doubt you won't worry too much about what a random stranger on the net thinks though!

Maybe wait until she is old enough to ask and understand what it is all about, then you can make it into a really great mother/daughter bonding outing.

Mine was done was when I was really little. We said we will wait until she is old enough to ask and then take it from there. Well at 2 she begged us and we told her when she is a big girl.

Well I had to swallow my words. At 2 years 8 months she totally selfweaned. A week after that she asked me if she wants to can she have boobie again. I asked her if she really wants to as she is now a big girl. She said naaah but now that I am a big girl can I have those earrings. Well couldnt really argue.

We explained it might hurt a bit ect. Got it done in both ears at the same time. My MIL was furious with us and tried to make us feel very bad for it. I dont regret it. She was old enough and I havent met anyone where it was done where they were little that regretted it as such.

I wouldnt' do it. 8mths seems incredibly young and I would never inflict that on a baby let alone a toddler.

I got mine done at 13 and MA will be the same (if she asks)

Lauren will be allowed her ears pierced when she is old enough to ask for them to be done, within reason obviously! I want it to be her choice!

DH has other opinions of "not until she's 16", yeah right!! Great Tui ad that is!! Good luck putting her off for that long, she'll be wanting alot more things than just her ears pierced by then!! Think he's a little nieve myself!!

I was 2 when I got mine done, I remember the Chemist shop it was done in and I screamed the shop down!

I got mine done at 13. It was going to be 11 but I chickened out at the last minute (they'd already marked the holes and everything).

Then I got a top ear one done at 16 and that hurt for ages - couldn't sleep on that side for a month. Found out later you're not meant to get cartelidge ones done with a regular gun -oops!

Shirena that's one smart cookie you have there. I agree - how can you argue with that?

I got mine done at about 4 I think, mum says that nagged her for ages so the local chemist done my first lot, I now have 2 earings in each ear.
Our wee girl has got hers done my mum got the done for her as she wanted to but I said not until she starts asking so I think she was about 4 when hers got done and as fallen said they had one person with a gun on each side not like the old days.
