Topic: Good toys?? Posted: 16 September 2006 at 3:33pm |
Alex is just getting to the stage where he is out growing his baby toys. The soft rattles and toys which don't make any sound or move don't keep him amussed really anymore. So I want to buy him some new 'big boy' toys. So am just wondering what toys your kids have enjoyed. Which ones have kept them ammused the longest. A lot of toys are really expensive now and I don't want to spend lots and then he doesnt play with them. So any ideas would be great!!

My advice is take him to the warehouse or a toy store to see what he plays with.
Han absolutely loved the Playskool "Wheels on the Bus" toy. I love it because she loves it! (Despite the completely irritating music).

Andrew has the fisher price Wheels on the bus, old McDonald and the Train one and he loves them. They are really good as they have moving bits and music.
Tonka has a range of trucks for little boys they are a lot smaller and a lot softer. You could also try puzzles, big wooden ones are good to start with.

I agree now is the time to start on puzzles and building blocks etc - those new fisher price blocks are really cool they are see through with stuff in them and you can buy some cool bigger toys to put the blocks into - hint they are cheapest at kmart and warehouse!
Otherwise trucks and first train sets etc....tonka do soft versions of their trucks etc but now is the time he will be intersted in exploring movement etc...
and a cheapie but a goodie - bubble blowers....kids love em (my dog is scared of bubbles tho!)

Taine loves Jake's playskool bus too. Taine and Jake both LOVE balls. We have these neat ones with little knobs all over them which Taine particulary adores. jake still loves his ball, and we are getting him soccer goals for xmas.
Baby Einstein Dvds are adored by both boys and for ages. for Taoine's birthday and xmas we are getting him a little bike (jake refuses to hand on his one). we also got him the fisher Price peek n go train. Not sure how that will go down but we'll see.
Jake has a talking phone thing that Taine loves at the moment. Each button makes a differnet noise,

we got puzzles but also the peek a blocks range we found great cos they learn cause and effect and they can use the blocks to learn to stack as well. We got Ayja a stand-up ball blast tower (there a re heaps on trade me) and that taught her to stand and she loved the music.. she still spends ages playing with that now. but also books are great, and little people, I'm a bit of a nut, but we got our first set when Paris turned 1, we now have heaps and both of the girls still use them all the time, they are heard wearing and you can do the animals thing the vehicles the farm sets.. all the stuff you usually get in different bits and bobs you can find in the range and it all fits together.
ooh and likes others have said, balls, and even pianos and stuff that makes noise(i love noisy toys)

Maya loved the Peek a Blocks too. I bought the first lot when she was about 6 mths old, and added to them over time and even now at age 3 she still plays with them.
I also used to give her a big plstic bowl with a few small toys/cloth books and she would rummage thru it and decide what she wanted to play with.

Oh even maybe getting someone (like grandparents) to get him the trolley that has blocks in it. Andrew got this for his 1st birthday and would walk around with it then plonk down and play with the blocks there.
