Just wondering what age you are supposed to put babies in the front of the supermarket trolley with just the belly strap around their waist and their legs sticking out the front?

My almost 10 month old no longer fits in the baby seat with full harness so I had no choice but to put him in the front basket of the trolley.  He sat there quite happily most of the time but now and again would get a bit of a lean going and I had to keep propping him up, my feeling is these seats are designed for toddlers rather than under 1s but would be interested to know what others do?

Its hard to remember when exactly I did it. I'm pretty sure it was about that age.. I remember adjusting the way he was sitting about half way around the supermarket.

My 2 still fit in the seats but it is getting a bit squished and they get bored quicker. What annoys me is you can't sit 2 of them up because there is only 2 leg holes for one baby I end up having to get a trolley that has one baby seat and one toddler seat. I saw someone with a baby in the standard seat your talking about and the baby couldn't sit by itself at all! So it was all flopped over the poor wee thing
Maybe pad him out with a blanket to help keep him up. Nine months sounds about right,

Lisa, Pak n Save have space for 2 toddlers in most of their trolleys. As does New World but you have to look harder for them.

I put Leah in the "toddler" bit and have done for about a month now, but shes sits up fine and she loves it able to look at things better and if i get close enough grab things, but if she was tried i would put her in the baby seat. It depends on how strong you bubba is but maybe put a blanket down first which might help him from leaning or moving??

I know Kaelen was happily sitting in the seat at the front at 8 months, so it was probably a little before that.

WE normally use the baby seat, although the other day had to use the front seat and Brennan was fine, i did put his big blanket around him so there was not much room to move. He is sitting up indepentantly anyway.

My girl's been sitting in the "toddler" seat since about 9 months (maybe sooner?) to start with I put one of our travel blankies in with her.

I have just started putting Jody in that seat. First time I put my bag on one side and her baby bag on the other. Second time I just used the strap and it stopped her from falling right over when she leaned, I had to straighten her up a couple of times, but at least with the strap she couldn't smack her face on the edge. I also gave her a baby book to read/suck on which kept her entertained so she wasn't trying to turn around and look at what I was throwing in the trolley.

Thanks for the suggestions, hes a big boy for his age, was just concerned he might lean too far over but I guess he can't really fall out with his feet out the front and the strap holding him in.  Might try a blanket see if that makes a difference.

Chickoin, yes I think I will have to take a toy with me for him to suck on next time, preferably one that I can attach to the trolley as he kept trying to steal my shopping list the whole way around the shop and when I had finished with it and gave it to him all he did was throw it on the floor

I think when they are old enough to sit up well by themselves, they should be able to sit in a trolley ok.

As for keeping them clean, and amused, check out my website

About 8 months i think. I used to stuff my handbag or the loo roll down one side if he was really leaning.

Lisa countdown also have the double ones, I was checking them out as Kyle is quite long and has nearly out grown the double ones with the baby bit and toddler seat, think they must be smaller than the single baby ones?

I think Spencer was around 10ish months as well when I upgraded him...lol he also use to get a lean on now and then and would need straightening up.

Spencer liked the list as well, he use to eat it and then I would have to guess the last half of my shopping Other favourites were my car keys or wallet or sometimes if I bought something child friendly I would let him have that, he would never play with any toy I took for him especially not one I could clip onto the trolley.
They soon out grow that stage, now Spencer is happy to sit in the trolley and point stuff out instead.

I think Caden was around....6 months old, he is very strong so had no problems, plus he was too big for the baby bit.
He loves being in the supermarket trolley lol, cos his daddy works at New World in the store room so he knwos when we go there, he is going to see DH.

we only started when they were one, but that was due to sitting issues, they kept leaning
they love stealing stuff out of the trolley when it goes in, and yes Lisa, try PNS or countdown they both have 2 baby seaters

Joel was about 7 months I think, but he was sitting well by himself. he leans over now but its a game to him so I leave him to it. I normally have a double trolley as Leah likes to sit (sometimes when the mood suits) with Joel and feed him out of her lunchbox! I have found double trolleys at all the big supermarkets here.

Mine go crazy when they see the grapes go in as they want to eat them. Also as soon as we reach the fruit/veg section they start yelling "NA-NAAAAAAA" until I put the bananas in the trolley.

Giving them an apple and sharing a container of melon between works for us at the moment. Also if they get their hands on the little fork they try to feed each other

Clara went into the 'toddler' spot at about 10 months, and she was sooo much happier up there. But be prepared for well-meaning strangers to point the baby seats out to you

I always take food - or if I forget I make a beeline for the deli, to get a slice of luncheon for her.

I stopped giving her the car keys to play with after someone told me the story of 'losing' their keys that way (as you can imagine it took forever to find them again) - cos that's something that would so happen to me!

Ha ha Anna, my first stop is always the deli - the gremlins get red sausages and lil miss gets a slice of luncheon.

I can't even remember how old she was when she started sitting in the "big girl" seat, but now we have issues with her trying to nose dive into the back part of the trolley to get to the food lol!

i suppose eden would have been about that - i cant remember either... we too go to the deli section first, they all get a purplo each and eden performs now if she thinks i am going past without stopping...

this is eden when she first sat in the trolley with her big brother.

of course now he is too big and she gets it to herself! it was a godsend when pak n save got all new trolleys with the double toddler seats.
