Well, according to IRD processing standards, they get through returns in 6-10 weeks... Funny how the payments seem to get processed before the refunds though...

Funny you should mention it Amy, I was just about to ring them... mine has been close to 10 weeks and when I rang a couple of weeks ago they told me it would be finalised by 5 September. Hmmmm, still waiting....
You're right about the tax owing tho - if you owe them they're right b*ggers, but if they owe you they take their sweet time. I get that with my GST returns - penalties if I am even a day late with payment, yet if I'm due a refund it takes them at least a week.

Aimee, I just rang them and got thru straight away so now might be a good time to ring? Turns out mine is stuck in processing somewhere while they decide how much Family Support I got... they're promising to have it sorted in the next 10 days... I'll believe it when I see it.

You have to watch WINZ - when Maya was first born and Willie and I split up they lent me $800 to buy a washing machine and fridge and pay the bond on my flat. I was paying it back out of my benefit at $10 or so a week and then I got a letter when I came off the benefit a couple of years later saying I still owed them around $1000. So I rang and looked into it and it turned out the same debt had been loaded twice, so it made a total of $1600. Lucky I rang to check or I would have kept paying my $10 a week until I had paid off two lots of the same debt.

Well finally off the phone! Looks like the family support bit is holding it up. Apparently won't be too much longer - yeah right!! Funny tho, the first person that answered I knew her! Random - went to school together. She had to transfer me to someone else tho.

I got mine really quickly... the whole $14.
I know it takes longer if they are using new bank details or you are waiting for a cheque... ?

REFUND - what the??? I havent seen a refund since my student days and even then i earnt too much one year in parttime waitressing and bar work and summer jobs and had to pay them like $70....I wish I would get a refund...DH and I both in top bracket for tax and lose so much each week - no family assistance for us unless we have like nine kids, and no daycare assistance etc either - soooo unfair with all the tax we pay....and today got bill for the specialist....another $3000 UGH....donations from tax refunds willingly accepted....LOL

I think I got a refund as I only worked April to Sept, then was on maternity leave so earnt bugger all really. I think I qualified for one of the low income (like under $16,000 ish) rebates, so I would really appreciate my $360!! Am going to buy a new digital camera!!!

I got a refund coz I was on the benefit for the first few months and working part time so I was paying PAYE (on the benefit) and secondary tax (on my work income), then I came off the benefit and was self employed so I got to write off a lot of my income as expenses which left me having paid more PAYE than I actually had to

I take back everything nasty I ever said about the IRD! I went to check my account this morning to see if my Vector refund had cleared and it had $2400 in it. WTF - we are so seriously broke atm, I was expecting it to have the $300 vector cheque if I was lucky. But no, looks like my tax refund was more than I calculated!
So yay for the IRD today!
