Topic: Morning sickness remedies Posted: 28 September 2006 at 4:39pm |
Who the hell named it morning sickness anyway? Rather morning, afternoon, evening and night sickness!
Okay, I'm getting it bad, I'm putting a brave face on it at work but feeling so nauseus and having to run backwards and forwards to the bathroom, I don't always throw up but lots of retching.
The only time I don't feel sick is when I'm eating and for about 2 minutes after, but I can't eat 24/7, I have been snacking on crackers but as soon as I finish the nausea comes back.
I've tried Ginger, it didn't work (I now can't stand the sight, smell or taste), I've tried Vitamin B6. My midwife suggested wearing travel bands but I'm not sure if I can at work, people will notice and will talk.
Please, does anyone have any "remedies" they have tried or heard of, I'll try anything.....

The only thing that worked for me was seabands
Just a thought why dont u buy some and decorate them so they dont look like seabands but bracelets?

I found the seabands good too.
Also, although I know you said you now can't stand ginger, I swore by ginger beer and gingernuts for nibbling and sipping on.
Hang in there hun, I hope you feel better soon!

make sure you eat before getting out of bed if you can. also i got some pregnancy morning sickness pills from the chemist that worked for me. plus had those mini gingernuts on hand all the time oh and lemonade helped to, specially lemonage ice blocks cos if you do throw up they make it much nicer, kind of line your tummy a bit.
good luck

I ended up getting medication from my midwife to stop it. If it gets bad then ask for the anti nausea drugs to take for a bit. I only took them for 2 weeks but it so worked for me.

I still have it chronically, and I can honestly say the only thing that has worked for me so far has been sea legs, although I had to see the ob gyn to get it okayed, and they didn't always work. You can get prescribed tablets like mummy_beks said, but they have side effects as well, like some can cause tiredness, and I already had that bad, and having a toddler didn't help with that. Good luck, and I really feel for you.

I tried the seabands and they did have some effect - but I did have to make sure I wore tops with very long sleeves to work.
Also, I got some Morning Med from the health food shop. Seems to help too.
Best of luck!

There's heaps of cool cuff-style bracelets out there that could cover up a sea-band or two! Carbonated water helps me when I'm nauseous, and I kept crackers and dried fruits nearby to nibble on for morning sickness. It's worse when you're tired, too, and remember it's normal to get tired at this stage (which doesn't help!!). So a nana-lifestyle can make a difference. Good luck and hang in there - it gets better!

I can vaguely remember starting a thread when I was first preg with the twins saying I take back any advice I ever gave anyone for morning sickness coz nothing helps at all!
I did find sports waters helped to keep my blood sugar levels up, and lemonade iceblocks, and of course the good old maxolon from the doctor. Other than that it was a waiting game - and I'm still waiting!

Oh yeah, I lived on MIZONE in weeks 10,11 and 12 to avoid hospital, as I wasn't able to keep ANYTHING down, not even air, it would seem. Sportswaters are great if you are vomiting alot, and they also keep your blood sugars up, which help with the nausea, as do barley sugars, because i have found, the minute my blood sugar dips and I start feeling a little tired or hungry, its all over...

Naturopharm MorningMed. Did the trick for me, and some others I know too. You can get it at some pharmacy's or health food shops. It comes in a wee glass bottle with spray - easily concealed in your handbag, or cover up the label and have it on your desk at work.
Hope you feel better soon!

I was sick everyday of my pregnancy, and the only thing that helped even slightly was maxolon. Sorry chick, but realistically there is not much to be done except grin and bear it I did find frozen apple juice to be quite nice sometimes.
