For those using neocate did you find it took your baby a while to get used to it?

Eva has been exclusively BF for 6 months and I am now putting her on neocate so that I can go back to having dairy in my diet (I am totally dairy free at the mo).

We started by giving her one feed a day and today we gave her two feeds. They recommend that she should be having 180mls - 210mls but today she only had 120mls at each feed.

I notice that when I put her back on the (.) for the next feed she has a huge feed.

I guess I am a bit worried that she isn't drinking enough of the formula at a feed. I also have to wait 4 hours to make sure she will drink it, otherwise she obviously isn't hungry enough and just plays with the bottle instead of drinking it.

Edited to make sense

Neocate tastes gross, have you tasted it? The only way I can describe it is it would be like drinking a bottle or raw potato juice
So bearing that in mind it may take her a while to get used to it. Can you express? if so you can mix the neocate with EBM to help her get used to the taste, you can also try mixing it in with her foods so it becomes a familiar taste.
It took us a while to wean Spencer onto it fully, about a week or two, and then he has been fine ever since.
Other things you can do as a temporary measure are to either add a couple of drops of vanilla essence or golden syrup and then slowly wean off that.

For more help you can ring 0800 NEOCATE and talk to the nutricianist, she is really lovely and a huge help

hugs to you, yes we had lots of battles and Tyde NEVER got up to the 'expected' drinking amount, you can try adding some golden syrup, or natural vanilla essence to it... trial and error etc.. but it definitately wasn't 'loved' by our boy!!!! can you try making custard etc from it (these are also trial and error) or adding it to foods when you give solids.. that's how we got most into our boy... (e.g. made porridge with the neocate in it and mixed with fruit etc).
goodl uck!

Thanks for your posts. Today I mixed 110mls of EBM with 90mls of formula (what was I thinking making that much lol) and Eva still only drank 120mls. She is having 3 meals of solids a day, breakie is just chewing toast but lunch and dinner are pureed foods, could the guideline for 180mls per feed be based on a baby that isn't having solids?

Her tummy looks very full after her 120mls... is 120mls enough?

I have noticed that my supply is really dropping and am about to go onto 3 feeds a day and am a bit worried about her getting enough milk as obviously I am not producing heaps anymore so I am now relying on the neocate.

I always use to make 180ml up for Spencer but he never drank it all. It's just a guideline, some will drink less and some more. You could try adding the neocate to the purees and making up cereal with it so she gets extra via the food as well.
I think they recommend around 800ml of milk up until 8 months and then it drops to 500-600ml when you swap to solids first.

If your breastfeeds are more spread out you might still be making quite a lot but just not feel as full?
