Engaged that much in the pelvis I think.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I have had 2 different midwives lately, and they both write the "decent" in different ways. One puts a down arrow,..and one puts an up arrow before it,...so 4/5 could either by 4/5 of the head is down in pelvis,..or 4/5 of the head is palpable.

weird!
I'd just ask them. To me that looks like one MW is saying it is almost engaged and ready to go, and the other is saying that it still has another 4 stages to go before engaging!?!??!

I had 2 MWs too, and they both had their own VERY different ways of explaining/writing things down

Yeah it is weird! But unfortunaly the 4/5 thing isnt mine! Yesterday there was 3/5 of the head palpable, and thats as low as bubs has ever been,..not low at all!! Come on bubba!!

i think it's a measure of how low down in the pelvis bubs is sitting.
i was 5/5 engaged last week and still haven't given birth so i wouldn't worry about the measurements

Sienna has been 3/5 (D3) for about 3 weeks now, and the little witch still isn't moving.

Maya on the other hand was 0/5 the day before I went into labour.

Oh but forgot to say that the head being in is a good thing, if your waters break there is no risk of cord compression (the cord lapsing below bubs head).

Yeah thats what the midwife said yesterday. That even tho the head is not engaged, its good that its sitting in the pelvis, and not "floating about"!

with my last one it meant it was head down in the pelc=vis so far but 5/5 being just there and 1/5 being you should give birth very soon (the lowest can go before birth) my midwife measures belly different she goes right round instead of the girth

Caitlin was so low down 6 days before I had her (last MW visit) that the MW queried if she had missed that bubs was breach and sent me for a scan (she wasn't - just had broad shoulders apparently)

Once they are engaged it also means they won't flip out of position - that's the biggest encouragement it offers. The head is probably 4/5 down, with 5/5 being as close as it can get before coming out. In saying that I think both my girls reached about 3/5 before I went into (spontaneous) labour.

Summary: it's good news!
