Topic: Creams and Stuff Posted: 06 September 2009 at 9:35pm |
Hi All
Just wanting to know what everyone opinions are on the best nipple cream and also the best nappy rash creams.
Nothing is too strange or alternative for me so throw it out there as DP and I are starting to stock up on that kind of stuff.
Thanks

I've always used Sudocrem on Sam and it's pretty good. He's never really had nappy rash very bad but on the odd occasion when he has the runs or something it clears up pretty well.
Not sure about nipple cream but I was given a sample of purelan? I think in my bounty pack and it worked pretty good.

nipple cream lanisoh or something like that. doesnt have to be washed off before feeding which is super handy, just make sure you dont leave it somewhere cold or it is really hard to get out. lol. bum cream i love weleda stuff. DS got really bad nappy rash for the first time a while ago cos we had got a bit slack and i covered him in it (looked like i painted his bum white) and by the end of the day the really rough sore skin had healed up and was just a wee bit discoloured, by the next day is was totally fine. i was amazed. its also all naturel and really easy to put on (doesnt go gluggy or hard to wipe on)

Oh I love the Palmer's nipple cream! I got some in a orange colour gift type pack that had other stuff in it too (4 little bottles/tubes).
Bum cream - I like ecostore bottom balm for keeping her bum nice, vaseline for overnight, sudocream for treating bad rash, lucas papaw cream is fantastic for everything but really expensive.

Nipple cream - lansinoh
bum cream - was using weleda calendula cream when we were still using sposies. Now that we are full-time cloth DD hardly ever gets red botty, on the odd occasion she does we use Tui Bee Balm, its awesome. Luca's Pawpaw ointment is awesome too - great for everything.

Wonderful
I am going to be using cloth 100% of the time after bub is 2 weeks old. Well thats the plan anyway so shouldn't have too many problems with nappy rash but I'll get some of that calendula cream I think. I've seen it on TM and they rave about it.
I'm currently usingBepanthen on my ever expanding boobs but want something top quality to care for them when bub comes so will look into the few different ones that have been suggested.
Thanks everyone!

If you're using cloth make sure the bum cream is compatible with cloth. I think it's bepanthen that ruins cloth, so I would say others do as well.
Nipple cream, I got Lansinoh. It was recommended by a midwife I was talking to who tends to have the better recommendations and suggestions.

Re- bepanthan for cloth, just make sure you use liners. You can get disposable ones or you can make some out of microfleece, keeps you cloth unstained -ish
We have used Tui bee balm, bepanthan and suedocreme
I used purelan for my nipples, that and breastmilk if they got sore/cracked

With butt creams, don't buy anything seriously. In the bounty pack you get after having bubs they have a sample of sudocream and benpanthen and we haven't even finished the samples and Daniel is over 2 years old. Don't buy them unless you need them and you might stock up on something that doesn't suit your bubs. If you want to stock up just buy grocery vouchers and you can use those later

Good point Stacey!
We use Benpanthen for the nappy cream unless she's (on the rare occasion) in cloth in which case we use Lucas Pawpaw and a liner. But sadly only benpanthen seems to keep the nappy rash at bay for any length of time.
For nipples - something with lanolin in it then it's not a problem if baby ingests it. Also good as lip balm I've found.

nipple cream. My midwife squirted some lansinol (i cant spell it) into a sterile urine sample container for me after i had henry. she honestly didnt put much in and i still have heaps left!!! I was putting it on after every feed in the early days. It was great. Especially since you didnt have to wash it off and you only need a very very small amount, like a dot on your pinky.
bum cream - we use tui bee balme if his butt is getting a bit red. Its great!!! i also use it for any dry skin i have or any other skin on henry thats looking a bit red or sore - eg dribble patches under his chin etc. He has had bad nappy rash once when we used dissposables for a week or so and i just used the sample sudocream i got in the bounty pack. I second the not bothering to buy any. There were 3 different nappy cream samples in the pack you would have to have a fair bit of nappy rash to use all those samples and if you're planning on using cloth they honestly dont get it very often if ever.
so theres my two cents worth - hope it helps
