I've got a very sad baby with a painful bottom. He's 3 weeks and just shy of 5kgs. The box of Pamol doesn't start doses until 3 months. Is there any reason why that is? I'd love to be ble to give him something.

basically DH got some wipes which hugely irritated his bottom. He has very sore really red patches, Midwife just saw him yesterday and we're putting a thick layer of Sudocream on the area but you can tell he's not very happy. He's hardly slept all day or had a decent feed. He's not too cold or got a fever but has been crying and shrieking all day - especially if he's restin/lying on his butt.

owie. DS got really bad nappy rash a few days ago and the skin actually peeled off his bum :S i coated it in weleda cream and it was gone within a day but i asume sudocream would have the same affect. i also use a warm facecloth instead of wipes so the chemicals dont upset them (unless im out, then i use wipes)

If he's reacting badly to wipes a great replacement is a box of johnsons baby nappy liners from countdown. They look like chux cloths but much softer. We just dip them in warm water and use them as wipes. It's completely chemical free and we have never had nappy rash problems. My sister gave me the idea as all the kids in our family have had really sensitive skin. The only time we used normal wipes was in hospital when they were born and they wipe their bums raw to the point they bled.

Poor wee guy Hope it clears up soon. It's amazing when you read the back of the wipes packets how many chemicals they use even in the sensitive ones. I never understood why we need 10 different chemicals to wipe a bit of poo off such brand new soft skin. I mean as adults we use plain toilet paper so why should it be any different for babies?

Lisa - that's a good tip about the liners. I will have to keep that in mind.

Ryan finally hit the wall at 3pm and has been sleeping ever since. He was soooo tired.

I'm hoping things improve over the next couple of days. If it doesn't look better by Friday I'll be ringing my MW.

It doesn't help that our son is a champion poo'er. He must poo about 10-15 times per 24 hour period so he's constantly getting wiped, even if ever so gently with cotton wool.

My bubs has rotovirus at the moment and bad nappy rash - we are using vaseline with another cream and have found that the nappy rash has healed up very quickly. Maybe try a wet flannel and then the vaseline (as it draws away some of the moisture).

Also if you can let him kick around nakey in the sun for a while, works really well,
If you ring healthline they will give you the proper dose of pamol to give him.
And they do stop pooing that much eventually I promise.

my girl is over 6kg and only has 2ml......that is more then enough for pain.........if you give them too much at a young age they are questioning the link to asthma......
