HI ladies

Yeah I've had issues with the fly buys one too. Seems to read way too low. So will be interested to see what brands people recommend!

Havent got a flybuys one, but got a cheapish one off trademe which drives me batty so have stopped using it. It read too low or too high and made me panic and then it would stop working randomly. Not much too add, just will watch this topic with interest

We have a Braun Thermoscan and love it. (wasnt cheap but we had a $100 flybuys gift card that could be used at the chemist)  I work in a daycare and we have one there that I would say is used on a daily basis (across the three rooms) and have never had a problem with it (other than running out of the ear cover things!!!)

I dont change the ear cover each time at home just wipe it with a wipe and change it every so often

We also have a Braun from a pharmacy and it is awesome. It has pretty accurate readings, is really easy to use and is pretty sturdy, Livvy plays with it and has dropped it many times and it's still fine.

We got one off trademe too, and I don't trust it. It will give completely different readings from different ears, taken seconds apart!

Yep, we have the Braun too - pressie from my cousin when Campbell was born.
I'd also recommend not replacing the ear cover every time - I bought some replacements not long ago, and they're not cheap!

Have a wee play around with them ladies - it can be quite hard with littlies because to take a very accurate reading the thermometer needs to be directly pointed to bounce off of the eardrum, and in little bubs that means that you have to kinda pull the tip of the ear at the top, back and up slightly to get the ear cannal to straighten up, otherwise you are taking a reading off the ear canal which will sometimes read lower.

You could always just get one of the good old "BD" brand ones, which only take a min or so under the arm,(much more accurate, and a heck of alot cheaper!!) or i have seen ones now that do the same thing guaranteed in 10 seconds - although have not yet trialled these out (I should get one and trial it out against our usual work ones)

Ditto to this. We have an ear one but always use the underarm one when we want a more accurate reading.

hehe I have about 5 under the arm ones and one that works in 30 seconds which I find reads lower than the other ones but the problem is getting Jayden to stay still long enough to take it

I have the Thermotek no touch thermometer which you just hover above their forehead for a few seconds its been great. I can easily check my baby's temp anytime, even when he's asleep. It cost me about $80 but it was worth it.
