Topic: Diana Gabaldons new book Posted: 27 September 2009 at 11:03pm |
Is anyone a fan of her books? I loved them when I read them but think that I lost interest in the last one. In fact i thought it was THE last one in the series. So I am suprised to see a new one.
Has anyone read it? is it good? Can anyone remind me what happened in the previous one (a breath of snow and ashes)

I LOVE those books and I got given A Breath of Snow and Ashes but I stupidly lent it to someone before I actually read it so I am thinking about getting a second hand copy from trademe and reading it before I get the new one.
I thought it was the last one too and was surprised to see a new one, although I don't even know what happens in A Breath of Snow and Ashes so not sure where the story leads (obviously if there is a new one then they don't all die in the fire like the book eludes to)
It's been a few years since I read them all so I might have to hunt out the first five and read them all again!!

Oooh yay! I am currently reading them again for what must be the 10th odd time. I actually don't remember what happened in the last book, but just looked at the last page, and (don't look Renee if you don't want to know) it seems it was about the American Revolution etc. Also Brianna and Roger go back to the present day because their child has a heart condition that needs surgery. The book ends with them rebuilding the house at Lallybrook and finding a note from Claire to say that they lived through the war.
Wonder where she can possibly take the next one?

Its called Echo in the Bone and its due out here 1st October, and Diana is coming to NZ for a book tour.
I've been reading a couple of excerpts on her web site, it follows the revolution, and Brianna is reading her parents letters.
I love her books, and Jamie and Claire.

ooh, I knew there was still one more book to go but wasn't sure when it was due. I will have to re-read A Breath of Snow and Ashes as the only part I could remember was Brianna and Roger going back.

Oooh I love these books too, though I tend to read them really fast and can hardly remember them a few years later! Might have to have a skim over the last one to refresh my memory, this is definately going on the Christmas Wish List :-)

Oh so its not out yet? Ok...maybe Xmas pressie here. I think I was a little disappointed in the last one. but I really cant remember. I think they werent as good when they left Scotland.
BTW...just between you and me (and not DH) I always vowed that I would call my first born Jamie (but make it James, shortened to Jamie)...well first was Tom but second was James...actually named after his great grandfather. And we havent shortened to Jamie.....instead he is Jamesy.

Its already out in all bookshops it came out on 24 September. I have a copy sitting looking at me at home i want to finish what i am reading before i start it. I believe the aim is for the series to finish back in Scotland. Looking at the back of the new book it sounds like they are going to make their way back in this one. I think there is one more book after this series.
Can you tell i really like these books??

I held off buying it in the bookshop today. I have requested it at the library instead. I think I deserve to go shopping after being so good.

There is another one after this one, and yes if we have a son he'll be a James cause DH likes english/scottish names, and cause I love Jamie Fraser.
Hey if its ok for my parents to name me after a character in a book, it ok for me to.

Dh likes traditional /scottish names too and would like to name a boy James as well.
Apparently the script is written for the movie i think they are hunting around for directors etc. now who thinks that if BBC or similar does it it will be done well but the americans will spoil it just look at what they did with braveheart and rob roy.
When we were in SCotland 3 years ago we were at the stones in Orkney you can go right up to them and touch them they didn;t talk to me so t=no trip to see Jamie.

Oh sweetpea I am so jealous that you have been to Orkney! We had a trip planned but had to come home for a family wedding instead and then couldn't fit it into our budget
But we were up in Aberdeenshire and I saw plenty of stone circles out in people's farms and the like.

Unfortunately I didn't read her books until after spending 6 months living in Scotland. So wasn't on the look out for stone circles .
One day we'll get back there, MIL is English and has family there.
I've been to Aberdeen a few times though, I worked for BHP in London and most of my work mates were Scots, I so love the accent.

Apparently Gerard Butler is tipped to play Jamie Fraser!
ETA: Jamie Fraser doesn't look like Gerard Butler in my head.

I pre-ordered when mightape told me it was coming out - I knew she was writing another one in the series but it was an age since I read breath of snow and ashes!
Have read a few chapters in echo in the bone so far quite good, same style of writing, seems there is going to be a bit in there about William as well (jamie's illegitimate son)...
I found that I was so tired when i was doing my degree I couldnt face reading, so I got the series on audiobook from audible.com. Only the unabridged versions are really worth it - and am listening to lord grey books at the moment too. Soon the others in the series will be on there unabridged (Diana Gabaldon only likes the unabridged versions but cant do them until the abridged contract is up)
Anyway, well worth having on ipod if you have little one's, I listen when I am feeding and it gives me a chance to have the pleasure without the effort of reading
