O.K. so this is probably one of those overly paranoid moments, but they are talking about a Possible Tsunami hitting us and I'm right on the freakin beach in the worst place possible! Now Jess rides a scooter and due to the weather he took the only car to work with the car seats and I can't get hold of him

I'm freaking out!

I just heard this, I read a lot of stuff and they really think its pretty unlikely.

I know its freaky, it freaks me out big time this sort of stuff.

Is there anyone else with a car around you know, IF anything were to happen, it would be a case of bugger the car seats and go anyway.

But I really think it will be ok, they have to be very cautious.

I just got hold of Jess I told him I would listen out for any news. I agree that it's highly unlikely but I guess with the kids in the house it makes me nervous if it was just me I would probably be fine. I'd rather leave and laugh later

Don't stress! Stuff says:

The Hawaii center's updated timings for the arrival of a tsunami in New Zealand are:

East Cape at 9.44am

Gisborne 10am

North Cape 10.12 am

Napier 10.40 am

Wellington 10.50 am

Auckland (east coast) 11.12 am

Auckland (west) 11.39 am

Lyttelton 11.55am

New Plymouth 12.17pm

Nelson 12.23 pm

Dunedin 12.31 pm

So at the very least you'll have some warning of the size of it a couple of hours in advance which is plenty of time to walk somewhere if you have to.

You can keep updated from the source at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center website.

I just saw that too. He seemed a bit flakey. It sounded like he was trying to calm people down but he didn't do a very good job with me!

if you go to stuff if lists the possible times. i live on petone beach and am gonna be driving up the motorway to town so im just gonna stay off it round 10.50 when it hits wellington (if it hits at all) the waves break on the motorway in bad weather so im a little worried. DH works on the waterfront too so if they are that worried i imagine they'll shut roads or evacuate. they arent gonna let ppl sit of home and get hurt

The 1st landbreak of the Tsunami wave was 3 metre waves - not big enough to make it up a lot of our beaches.

Ok, they are now saying it will be 1 metre and if you live on the beach listen to the radio be prepared to move.

yea they reckon .5m is enough to knock you off your feet so id say its not a huge deal. they saying its a code red but i think the biggest problem is being right on the beach otherthan that it is just potential flooding of low lying areas

Lisa I think I would be worried where you live as well (sorry not trying to freak you out more than you are), but yeah I think I would take the leave and laugh later approach as well.

yea apparently waikehe island and the other island are being told to move high ground and they are evacuating ppl immediatly on the beach is aucks i think. east cape is 10 mins so i guess that will give us a good idea what to expect. i dont think it will have much impact on wellington cos it needs to get through the heads first but im glad ill be at a friends place on the hill just in case cos we are on the beach

yup that's what I'm going with...I have the essentials packed for me and Miss M just in case we need to move. I'd rather be prepared.

Yep got hold of Jess and he's on his way to take us up the hill to my parents house. If it was just me I'd ride it out but I've got the girls so I'll take the paranoid approach lol. Worst case scenario is it floods the house so I'm taking all our clothes and our hard drive as it has all our pics.

I think that is the best idea Lisa, it's not exactly that quick to get to high ground from your place. Have fun watching from up the hill
