Topic: Recommend me a basssinet!! Posted: 29 September 2009 at 12:40pm |
I had a white satin edged bassinet from farmers, it went mouldy after 3months, despite frequently airing!
I would like to know what you guys found good/bad.
I'm thinkng of going for a Cariboo one this time, with the draping curtain at the top as they are quite big and last bubba was in bassinet till 5months =)

I LOVE my Cariboo Classic with veil. I am thinking Ben will be in it till about 4mths if he keeps growing at the same rate.
I got mine off TM for $180, it was 2nd hand but hardly used. There is a trader on TM, walls1 who sells Cariboo factory 2nds, it doesn't say so but I assume it is Preston Int who make them

We got the cariboo gentle motions and the stand, that way we could take it off the stand when the kids nearly outgrew it and hang it in the cot, so that they could get used to the cot and the nursery before transitioning into the cot fulltime.

I will talk up the Cariboo, too
Hannah's small, but still fit in hers comfortably up until 6 months. Awesome value for money, and dismantles up really small for storage for the next baby.
I also loved that it was easily portable - especially while baby is in it.
And the drapey net thingy is great for shade/bug-protection if outside.

you should have a look at the baby bliss bassinet, your baby fits in it for ages as it is really long and very sturdy

hi i would look at both before you decide. the baby bliss one is very sturdy, quite high up so if you have another child they cant easily get to the baby, and are extra long. the website you can see it on is www.babybliss.co.nz or www.dimples.co.nz and i think the dimples shop in newmarket has them. i think farmers have cariboo

The only thing is that dont do the one that you can hang in a cot, so then you have to transition straight into a cot (and maybe a new room too, at the same time)

Your going to keep them in a cot in your room .. ?
Although I cant talk .. we kept Issy in with us until she was six months old, unfortunately this house isnt big enough to fit a cot in our room

During the days though I would drag her bassinet into the lounge.

I'm another Cariboo fan! We had a cariboo bassinette with the veil and our son was in it until he was about 7 months old. If you buy one brand new, the lady on the phone at Preston International told me that retail stores have to honour the deal where you pay $20 to upgrade to the wool mattress. It's very thin but costs $60 to buy new and is made to meet USA's strict standards.
I also had a moses basket that I bought from Trade Me and got a new natural fibre mattress. (Nature Baby mattress I think!) It was a DREAM! We live in a 2 storey house, and I could have my baby with me downstairs during the day.
