Topic: How many nappies? Posted: 01 November 2006 at 5:10pm |
Hi Ladies,
I was just wondering how many nappies your babies of similar ages to my little one are going through these days? Alyssa is almost 14 weeks old and still seem to go through a heck of a lot of them! I would say I use at least 15 or more every day...not sure how many is the norm though?
She absolutely will not put up with even a slightly dirty nappy and won't stop grizzling until she has been changed. This is probably my fault as early on she had nappy rash and so I changed often as was recommended to me and so now she's extra fussy! On top of this, she has always had the routine of a feed after a nappy change so this is demanded as well! Little monkey!!

Olivia was on about 6 - 8 Huggies a (24hr)day at that age, I just let them fill up!
Now that she uses thin nappies (Pam's or Treasures) during the day she goes through about 6 - 8 of those on regular routine (12hrs) and a Huggies over night.
I'm sure that when Alyssa is sleeping through the night it will be much less.

we are the same, we use huggies at night (just one from 8pm to 7am) unless she poos but then from the 7am change we would probably use around 6ish a day depending on how many are dirty. We feed then change unless its dirty

She's actually sleeping 10 hours at night now so most of the nappies are during the day unfortunately

We use cloth nappies but it works out the same...we go through 7-8 nappies in a 24 hour period, we change each feed and again if she has a dirty nappy in between.
It's not a bad thing to change when dirty after all sitting in a dirty nappy too long is a big contributor to nappy rash!

Well i can use anywhere between 8 & 12 depending on what kind of day Lycan is having....sometime he can have a dirty nappy 3 times in the space of an hour....and other days he just has 1 - 2 dirty nappies and the rest of the time he gets changed after a feed.

15 a day! Are you using a brand where she doesn't feel wet? It is best to change poo ones right away (before they travel ), why is it that they best like to empty their bowels into a fresh nappy!?!?

I use huggies which seem really good to me, but she still knows when something is in there!

Taine was exactly the same and still is. Jake could wander around for days with a dirty nappy and not care, but Taine wants it off NOW!!!!! You could try giving her some more "bare bum" time. more clean up though I suppose.

OMG 15 Huggies a day must be costing a fortune!! I think we were ony using around 6 fuzzis a day at 3 months - sounds about the norm.

what if you take the nappy off and put it back on again? If it is still dry then she shouldn't notice?
Edited as I didn't mean to type "wet" nappy, I meant if it was still dry..

i'm sorry meow but that must be the weirdest thing i have heard in a long time, no she wont notice it, until she starts getting a rash or fungal infection ... you would be better off giving her more nappy free time, and now that it is getting warmer ... so maybe take her nappy off and then let her have a kick and play without her nappy (put maybe a cloth nappy under her or something you dont mind getting dirty just in case) and then put a clean one on just before you feed her.?

thanks gsmum, you really made my day with your post
I edited my other post as I realised I had typed "wet" but I meant to just type nappy.. no, I wouldn't put a wet nappy back on a baby, but if it is still dry then there is no harm in putting it back on again, after all, disposables have tabs to refasten if needed

Yeah it definitely is getting expensive and I really rely on the foodtown and countdown specials where they sell huggies for $8.99 or $9.99 depending on the week!
Sorry if I wasn't clear about it, but Alyssa doesn't have any issues with nappy rash at all these days so I know she isn't disliking a dirty nappy due to pain or anything...I think she has just become really really fussy now from those early days of changing as soon as the nappy was dirty.

MIne are eating their way thru a pack of Huggies every 2 days The midwife came yesterday and gave me the guilts about starting using the cloth (I told her I was going to start at 6 weeks and she gave me the "in my day we didn't have disposables" lecture) so they're now in cloth during the day.
