My MW thinks I'm in for a 'long haul labour' and I could go in a few days or a week.    She said by what has been happening (contractions every few minutes), she doesn't think I'll get to 40 weeks.. but..

Am I going to wake up each morning and have contractions and period pains that build up over the course of the day only to stop again?

Is it just niggles?   Argh, I don't know what my body is doing!

I'm 1CM dilated and my cervix is soft and favourable and the machine thingy picked up contractions, albeit not overly strong ones every 5 minutes while being monitored.

Oh and after the internal (OUCH OUCH OUCH) I had a HUGE contraction which almost made us turn the car around last night.    I went in for monitoring at about 2AM. I feel bad for calling my midwife so I think I'll wait for definite ouchy ouchy ones next time rather than regularity.

He's also pretty much engaged, I'm measuring 40 weeks and I feel 'off' IFKWIM.

I don't know, can anyone humour me?   Or at least tell me a nice story about how this turned into full blown labour after a day or so?

I can't, but I guess we wont be seeing you at the meet then :( Gosh nee, I hope this ends up in full labour soon, I couldn't imagine you having to put up with this for a whole week. If you still haven't given birth in a week will the MW induce you?

I can't , as I said on your facebook I was 4cms dilated for 4 days before finally going into proper labour and that was after 2 weeks of contractions that came and went , BUT , I can tell you what the mw says would have helped if I'd done it earlier ....
Lots of relaxing, baths lying on your left side , sleeping on your left side, and trying not to get too anxious and stressed out (hard I know ) .
It sounds like your body is very near ready , I think it will be only a few more days , fingers crossed for you !

I had similar contractions etc from 34 weeks with DS, unfortunately I have to say that he wasnt born until 39 weeks. But on the plus side, as soon as my hind waters broke and I had "real" contractions I was 5cm and my labour was fantastic - especially compared to 40 hours with DD!!

Good luck renee, thinking of you heaps!!! xoxo

oh this brings back memories
i had this with both my 2nd and worse with my 3rd.
with my 2nd this went on for about a week. til he came and no it wasnt a long haul birth once things did happen it was only 50mins til he was born.

with my 3rd it went on for almost 3wks some nights they were 3-4mins apart and painful enough to have to move around, that started in my 37th week and he didnt come til 2days overdue. i went in that morning for a s&s was 2cm, was told he prob wouldnt come for another 24hrs+. that night i had the usual false labour contractions but to my surprise they didnt stop and he was born after a 3-4hr labour.

dito on the bath, i found swimming and nice baths helped alot during that time.

Brings back memories for me too. I had a week of off and on contractions and then four days of contraction that were no more than 20minutes apart before DS was born. I hadn't slept for 3 days when he arrived.
Sorry no good story here other than to say he arrived safe and sound and there is an end to it. THere is an end to it. That was my motto.

oh, should add that when labour did go into full gear I got to the birthing unit at 3:30 am and was 7cms , and he was born at 4:44am after 15 mins of pushing, so definetly not long haul !

With my first I had regular, very painful contractions for a week beforehand. Then when my waters broke it was only 6 hours I think until I had him. It was a hard labour though because of not sleeping for nearly a week beforehand (I had the on hands and knees, wheat bag-needing contractions, not just BH or anything).

This one.. I was 2cm dilated at 39+2, started contracting at 39+3 (regular but still 10min apart), had her at 39+5 after 47 hours labour But... the 'active' labour part of it (regularly between 8-10min, lasting more than 40sec) was only 3 hours. Plus it was a lot less painful (not posterior this time round), had no pain relief other than a bit of gas and only 7min of pushing.

So I don't necessarily think it means much, I don't think the stuff before established/active labour counts for much other than your ability to cope (lack of sleep etc), its when it gets to the business end that counts and that varies depending on your readiness, pain threshold, position of baby etc.
