I know Chonny has a thread similar

My inlaws are coming soon from the U.K. and I'd like to take advantage of the good exchange rate and need to purchase this before the next slingbabies meeting so am taking a risk of buying before trialling (that's if I can convince DH that we need one hmm).

Unfortunately I'm knocking out the Ergo, Menduca, Puku Pouch & Beco as they're too expensive (but would be my first choice).

This leaves me with the following, could those who have tried them place your preference as to comfort & ease to use.

My main concern when looking at some is that my boys will feel restricted as some of the straps seen to be where the boys arms would be so I'd like a bit more freedom for their arms YET support so they don't kick me and riggle like mad.

Papatum: looks comfy but not stylish
Babyhawk: Looks less comfy due to the straps?
Action baby Carrier: not in NZ I think but what do you guys think of from looking at the website? They look the stryliesh but comfort? Action Baby Carrier
ETA: or any other in the $100/150 price range

Thanks guys

I would go with a Patapum, its well known and well tested.

Oh and slingbabies had a meeting today .. ive just come home from it - actually a woman was trying on the Patapum when I was there.

Yeh, Rachael told me but I was busy this morning otherwise I would have come. Thanks for the advice, shame it's not the nicest/prettiest of looking carriers.

By the way would you say that the carriers that have a waist band thing is comfier than the wrap style asian ones? I would presume yes? I'm not going on a hike ar anything but just don't want to buy something that doesn't support my back and is uncomfy to wear.

Also, I would imagine the Toddler Patapum would be fine for bubs under 18months rather than buy the standard & it not fit my boys when they're older?

Yeah the toddler patapum would be fine .. actually the Patapum IRL is actually really nice, quite sporty looking, id wear one (although thats not much of a selling point lol).

Ummm I find the ones with a waist band more comfy, but that could be just cause im still squishy in that area

That price is it NZD or Stirling? .. if its NZ what kind of stirling price are you looking at?

What's a Patapum IRL and would you suggest the Toddler over the standard as I can't actually find the difference as the standard seems to hold a good weight anyway. Opps sorry for all the Q's

Cheapest I've found is approx. $100 NZ (42 pounds incl. VAT & postage to my inlaws in UK) but if you know of somewhere cheaper in NZ obviously let me know ta

Thanks Julia

Sorry to serial post ..

Babyhawke - these are quite comfy to wear, but not something DH would wear so I went with an Ergo. If you like this design try looking at snugglez (and they are cheaper).

Actionbaby carrier - at 90 USD id pay an extra 20 USD for an Ergo

On the slingbabies site, if you look at the Asian and Soft Structured page there are lists of pros and cons and links to dealers

Id still go with a patapum.

Oh IRL is "in real life" .. so when you see one up close and person being worn they are actually really nice looking.

From what I can tell the toddler one is slightly longer in the body and is safety rated to a higher weight. I would go with the toddler so you can wear the boys for "years" my friend still carries her children that are 3 and 4.

On another note .. I personally think you will be able to wear the patapum for a longer period of time in more "strenuous" activities .. for example if you went for a long walk, my friend wears hers hiking.

If I had known you were interested I could have borrowed the patapum from the slingbabies library for you to try on, we could have met up for coffee.

I could probably contact Jess and ask her if I can borrow it if you want to play before you pay. It only costs $5 to hire it.

Where in Auckland are you hun?

I was at Slingbabies today too, although spent the latter half of the meet inhaling caramel slice

I have a spare Kozy that I'd be happy for you to try on if you want, it's a mei tai but really sturdy, and I would rate it as equal to the Ergo in comfort... haven't tried a Patapum yet.

She lives very near Western Springs .. maybe we could all go and feed the ducks one day soon and kill two "birds" with one stone (not literally though as we may get in trouble).

The Baby Hawk designs are gorgeous and yeh I love how you can design your own, unfortunately I'd be getting my inlaws to bring one over from the UK and wouldn't have time to get one custom made. Gorgeous though and glad to hear they're comfy especialy for wrigglers.

Just to let you know I came into some luck, I was discussing this at the multiple birth playgroup this morning and this lady said she had an ergo in the car. So I tried Eli in it and he was happy for 1/2hr and it was SO comfy! I love the fact that my hips seemed to take all the weight and not my back.

So, thanks heaps guys for your comments and offer for me to try yours - much appreciated. Especially to Julia for trying to find one for me to try!

I've decided I'll buy the Patapum Toddler Carrier as I'm sure it can't be too uncomfy versus the Ergo. It looks a tad more difficult to get them in but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. BUT now which colour to buy, Indigo, Chocolate or Black.
