Hi girlies!!

Ok, so I have a really meesed up cycle thanks to 2 depot jabs. It has been almost 11 months since my last jab, but things are still a mess. I have been bleeding since Feb, and I'm not sure if I have ov at all or had af since. I think I had af in Aug and Sep, as the bleeding was much heavier for 7 days each time. Usually the bleeding is anywhere from spotting - light af like (if that makes sense)

I posted a thread last week about ttc after depot, and everyone suggested I try Vitex. So I have bought the thompsons one a day vitex 1000. I have taken it now for a week every morning. I find the bleeding is lighter - nothing during the day, but starts again in the late afternoon/evening, and during the night, until early-mid morning when it stops again.

I have treid to search for info on Vitex, but haven't found anything on the recommended daily dosage. I know the ones i have are suppossed to be one a day (1000mg) but I'm wondering if I need to take more?? Should I expect the bleeding to stop all together?? arg my cycle is such a mess and I'm so confussed!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sorry if TMI!!

Hi NicolaAnn...Im not an expert but I do know that some of the girls are taking 2000mg per day. It also takes some time to sort out your hormones so won't necessarily be a quick fix to your intermittent bleeding.
Hopefully one of the longer term vitex fans will post a reply for you.

Vitex is slow-acting, the naturopath I saw told me it takes 3-6 months to take full effect.  I had been taking it for 4 months when I successfully conceived this baby.  Didn't notice any difference really the first month (still had spotting a few days prior to AF), but the next month had no spotting and cycle length increased by a couple of days.  If you're noticing an effect already I doubt you'd need to take a higher dosage just yet - perhaps just wait and see what happens over the next 3 months?  Oh, and I was on a lower dosage than you only 180mg per day (Premular brand).  Good luck!

Nicoleann - how frustrating for you! Have you seen the Dr? if you were only on the Depo for 6 months, it seems excessive that it is still mucking ya hormones up... maybe you needto get some BTs done to see what is going on hormonally??

I have really mental cycles and 1000mg of vitex sorted mine out pretty quickly... although I am now taking 2000mg to try and get it even more normal but seeing it can take 3 months to work effectively I don't think I'd be upping the dose yet if I was you...plus higher doses have been associated with some spotting between periods which is so not what you need!

i take the liquid so not sure how it compares dosage wise to the pills, but apparantly the liquid is more effective. It does take 3 months to get full effect. I have found for me that it has completely regulated my cycle.
so might take a wee while but will improve. i would be VERY cautious about increasing dosage, as it is quite a powerful herbal medicine.

Thanks a lot!!!! Ok, think I will keep taking the same dosage and see how things go over the next couple of months.

No I haven't been to see dr yet. I knew they would tell me it can take 6-12months (atleast) to get af after depot, so I was waiting it out hoping my cycle would sort itself out with time. I think I may need to go and get bt though, just to see where I'm at. Also, my cycle has always been very irregular, with af about every 8-10 weeks, so I don't really have a 'normal' cycle at the best of times.

took me a couple of years to come right after depo but I was on it for much longer so wouldn't have thought it would take that long for you... My normal cycle is like yours - very long and irregular... vitex did absolute wonders for me (reduced my cycles to around 37 days...) then I stopped taking it and straight back to 90... so highly recommend it for that side of things!
Yeah I reckon BT is the way to go

I am taking 2000mg per day as prescribed by my naturopath. It is apparently the maximum you can take

I have only been on it for 2 weeks so lets hope it works its magic on us all

1000mg of Vitex dropped my cycles down from 55 days to 35... I'm a huge fan!!

All the best for getting your cycle sorted.

Just note that the mg per bottle are not always the same. Some of the american brands measure it differently but it is still the same amount iygwim.

I took 2000mg when I conceived jake and started taking it again halfway through my last cycle. I ovulated for the first time since having jake last cycle and this cycle just finished i ovulated again and my LP lengthened by one day.

It definately is slow acting, you could take 2000mg for one cycle to kick start if you really wanted to.

GL hope it starts working quickly for you!
