We are looking at getting Tivo, but I don't know if I can give up mysky yet. Don't want both, we pay about $1200 a year for sky, so would be cheaper with Tivo in the long run.

suck Emiloly that's not fair! hehe

Yeah Tivo is similar to mysky, basically the freeview channels on digital, you have to have a broadband connection when I first read about it you could have any broadband connection but now I think your ISP needs to be Telecom and it updates the software automatically, with Telecom as your ISP you can download movies and programmes. But yeah it does the series link etc

hmm just been checking Tivo out, think we may get rid of mysky & do Tivo sooner.

Has anyone gone from sky to Tivo if so have you kept sky or got rid of it?

I will ask my Dad to send my some information/facts on Tivo to help you all decide.

(Dad says) It doesn't matter what isp your with.

(from there website) Is TiVo® content metered?
If you are not a Telecom Broadband customer you will not enjoy the benefits of unmetering, or be able to access On-Demand content. The TiVo service uses only a very small amount of data, and it will not have a notable impact on your monthly broadband download quota.
This leaves your broadband data allowance free for online tasks, whether it's email, web surfing, gaming, music or whatever takes your fancy. Now you can sit back, relax and enjoy your TiVo media device without worrying about your broadband data limits.

Check out the website http://www.mytivo.co.nz

ETA: Mum and Dad have both Mysky and tivo, but I would say that you probably only need one of the other. Although the quality coming in off the tivo is WAY better than sky. If you don't want the extra channels then tivo is the way to go. But if you want the extra channels tivo is a waste of time.

I still don't get what it actually is, I always see the ads and think they're stupid because without going away and looking it up you'll never actually know what it is

hehm basically its like free view, you can access the digital channels (so you get TVNZ7 etc) but it has the added benefit of having a hard drive type thing that you can record programes on. You can do a 'series link' and record all the episodes as the they screan on tv. You can use your wireless net work to transfer movies/tv shows off your computer and watch it on tv (handy if you down load your telly) Tivo will also guess what you want to watch and record a selection of programes fo you to choose from. If you don't watch it will just drop off the end. It's a lot like My Sky but in my opinion has a better interface. You can pause live tv and rewind it if you miss a bit etc. If your watching something that you recorded earlier you can fast forward through that adds.

Hope that helps a bit.

Emiloly, can you find out if they will offer this again, if we do Tivo it will be a bit later and this would be a deciding factor....

(Home Networking Package - worth $129 (not currently compatible with Macs)
Offer ends 24 January 2010 (and you need to activate your Home Networking Package by the 3lst of January 2010 to ensure you get it for free).)

Don't know if they would know or say yet

Recently, you need to take more care of you SEO approach. Each site should be analyzed and optimized if you want to have good audience. Do you know the main task of SEO? In simple words, it is your page online promotion. This approach can be compared with advertising, but still, it is very different to it. I use tools from https://spyserp.com/serp-checker to work with my content.
