I am a wee bit concerned about this as my blood pressure has always been good even before pregnancy and stable throughout pregnancy until maybe two weeks ago when I went to see Dr about getting heartburn medicine....
Normally it is 120/70 but was 145/85. The Dr didn't seem concerned (I was a bit worried), but when I saw the midwife this Tuesday, she said it was high and did a pee dip stick (no protein in urine) and also took bloods and monitored baby on CTG (?) for an hour (all good, baby happy).
I have to go see Dr today for another blood pressure check coz I live ages from midwvies clinic.
Anyway, strangely enough this is making me a little anxious which is probably gonna mean my blood pressure is raised already haha. Since it is borderline high, and I have no other symptoms other than some swelling on legs, should I be worried or should I just be going with the flow.
And should I be packing my hospital bag and taking it with me when I see midwives next week in case I get admitted!?!

I had borderline high BP from about 28 weeks onwards last time and towards the end it started getting up a wee bit too high like 150/96 and all my MW ever did was send me for bloods, do the pee on a stick thing, ask me if I had headaches, blurry vision, stuff like that and I never did so nothing ever happened.     I think borderline high is only worthy of a little bit of extra monitoring in their case. It's when those numbers start really creeping up to nearly 100 (the bottom one) is when they start to do something about it.   My BP has been on the low side of high this time, but still borderline so she's just been monitoring that each time, but other than that I have no other symptoms (except extreme GET OUT OF ME RIGHT NOW emotions going on)

Haha, okay maybe I should not be too worried about it. As long as they are checking me over which is what they (the midwives clinic is doing) I guess I am in safe hands!

i developed severe preeclampsia and had to be induced early. They werent as worried when it was just my blood pressure creeping up, as long as your pee on stick tests are normal and the swelling has gotten up your arms and face they probably will just keep an eye on you. You might have more frequent mw check ups. i think i was going in every 2nd day for about a week before it all hit the fan.

Good luck!!

mine started off with high bp and swelling and ended with bp fine but then protein and low platelets...in the end I got pre pe and got induced 2 weeks early..they just gave me bloods twice a week and monitored me till the 24 hour pee collection then i had to stay in till i had bub (2-3 days before and then 4 days after) i never had a headache or blurred vision but my swelling got all the way to my face:(

so anyway as long as they monitor you its all good.

Okay thats good, my blood pressure appears to be stable-was high when first got to dr but might have been feeling anxious. pee stick shows white cells or something but blood tests were okay. guess i just wait til next tues when see midwife again and see where things go.
would be awful to have a puffy face :-( sounds stinky for you, bad enough on legs.
oooh and dr said to lie down in afternoons for 2-3 hours...not sure what i am gonna do, guess watch tv and read books! doesnt quite fit in with my list of things to do but ah well, for the good of the baby i am sure i will cope haha!

Nats Cats your are in exactly the same boat as me, my BP has crept up to 140/90 and stabilised, my feet have minimal swelling and the pee tests have come back clear. My MW has put me on 3 times a week BP checks and told me I need to rest, she said that unless the BP climbs higher and protein shows up in the urine they will just continue keep a close eye on me.

Try and listen to them re the lying down. I had yucky swelling in my feet legs - lucky it never got any worse - and once I was on bedrest (for something else) and lying down resting for a few days it all went away It was awesome! It goes away after the birth too, but yeah it does take a while.

Glad to hear it's all good for now

Yup, def take it easy. My BP started to creep up at 36 weeks, and they wondered if bub had stopped growing, so after a week of feeling anxious, having tests and scans - all normal - I went into labour at 37 weeks.

Do I have to lay down flat? The Dr said that standing and sitting puts pressure on artery hence the swelling and to lie down but does he mean totally flat or can I be sort of propped up. Lying down flat kinda limits what I can do!

yeha propped up is better...flat on your back isnt great and prob wont be comfy...for the swelling having your feet up(above your heart level i think when lying down)..i use the end bit of the couch with head on a pillow...but i mostly lie sideways atm..

I've been told to lie on my sides to rest, prefrably the left side while having a pillow between my knees and a one partly under my tummy to keep things more comfortable.

laying flat on your back the weight of the uterus and baby can sometimes put pressure on the arteries, and restrict the blood flow to the placenta.

Yip, thats how I have been lying on my side, usually put pillows under my big fat feet/legs too to raise them a little.
I try not to lie on my back for the pressure on the arteries there but sometimes I wake up on my back which makes me paranoid haha! Then I have to nudge baby to make sure it is still moving hehe.
