Alyssa is at the stage where she loves having her hands in her mouth..problem is that she sticks her fingers so far down sometimes she gags, and worst of all, sometimes makes herself sick (a bit young to be bulemic )

Is this something babies always do? The gagging part that is??..

Hannah still goes it sometimes, although I think recently she discovered her dangly thing at the back and is always trying to touch it!

Emma Rose does it too, and it drives me nuts! Last week I had a friend over and every time she heard Em gagging on her fingers, she'd shout, "She's choking!" and go to grab her. I kept trying to tell her that it's just something Emma does right now, and I can't do much to stop her, and my friend said that none of HER babies ever did that and told me I should be concerned. Sigh. Some people...

See, pepsi? Alyssa is totally normal! In fact, it sounds like you should worry if she DOESN'T do it! LOL

Haha yeah, thanks everyone, I guess it's just other people's reactions to her gagging that made me wonder... It's like they all never had that problem when they had kids or something! Babies are funny

Hey Pepsi, my Plunket Nurse told me that they do this so that they build up their choking reflex (sort of like practice for the big event if it happens). Yay for kids, don't they freak the living daylights out of you?

Hannah was (is) a finger sucker and used to choke herself from time to time. She soon figured out how NOT to choke herself and it all settled rather quickly. She didn't used to make herself sick though, your bub might just have longer fingers. It doesn't sound worrying to me unless she is sicking too much... ie bolemia! lol

Wait until you try and move her on to more solid 'solids'.
Their gag reflex is amazing! Prevents the little toads from choking on a whooole lotta stuff.
