I am geting rather bamboozled by all these rules about what to eat and what not to eat! its a lot to take in.
What i do wonder, is does anyone know if you can eat ham off the bone (not deli ham)? also what about smoked salmon cold?

most meats are sweet to eat if eaten 'steaming hot' so if your ham is HOT then its sweet to eat. Same goes for the smoked salmon, personally would avoid eating it cold

it depends on you really, if you don't want to eat don't. My last pregnancy I ate ham off the bone and had no problems. Another thing to consider is who cooked it then decide if you want to eat it, or where it has been stored if its cold. When I ate the ham my MIL had cooked it and I eat most of her cooking. In saying that I have thrown up at her place after eating dinner but I had been feeling sick all day so it wasn't her cooking. We still make jokes about it to this day.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I was told ham off the bone is fine as long as its fresh, just opened and not sitting around.

Smoked salmon - a fave for me - until i got preggy and have avoided it every since - smoking process is the problem i think and u know what = im just not willing to risk anything!!!

Smoked salmon is a def no-no. In fact all smoked food is out eg smoked chicken. The smoking process never heats up the food to a high enough temp so it's not really cooked. You can of course heat up the smoked salmon but it changes the taste so it's not really the same thing.

Can't help with the ham - sorry. I know that cold ham is out but I guess if's cooked & hot it should be ok. After all cooked pork is ok and ham = pork.

Ham (even Deli) I have eaten in all of my pregnancies with no probs. As for salmon or any fish raw or otherwise I have stayed away from.

In the end I think it comes down to what you are prepared to risk. At times I think bugger it, people eat this stuff either in the past or in other parts of the world (hello - sushi - what else would they eat in Japan if cold rice was a nono!)

Then I stop and think, what if I was that unlucky percentage - how would I feel? So for the msot part, I grit my teeth and bear it, knowing that every month is a month closer to eating what I want!
