Topic: fitted swaddling wraps Posted: 08 January 2010 at 10:22am |
I have a couple of cotton & 1 merino stretchy wraps, but am also thinking of getting 1 fitted wrap for when he is a newborn. Have been looking at either the miracle blanket or dream swaddle and was wondering if anyone had used either (or both) of these and what were thoughts? DH though that maybe the velco on the dream swaddle might not be so comfy, but I did like how you could just unzip the bottom for the nappy change. Have also looked at the Cocooi, but don't really like how it only goes up to 5kg (Ella reached that weight by 6 weeks).
Cheers,

We got a miracle blanket for Joel when he started getting out of anything slightly stretchy, so at about a month! He was sleeping through by 8 weeks (12 hrs) and i'm sure it was the wrap! Leah didn't like being wrapped and didn't sleep through for months.
I used it till he was 18 weeks, when he was too long for it I left his legs out and it still worked fine. When he got to about 10 weeks I started leaving 1 arm out as he was always fighting to get it out (now a huge thumb sucker though!) and it was still easy to wrap the rest of him.
I love it and have kept it just in case we have another!

I use the Kiddopotamus ones and they are great! I have a winter weight one that I'd happily pass on if you like?

I've been recommended the Miracle Blanket, too. Can you make do with just 1 or is it better to have 2 or 3?

Has anyone tried the dream swaddle?
Can't decide between that and the miracle blanket.
Like the idea of a zip in the dream swaddle for nappy chnages in the middle of the night.
With the miracle balnket i wold have to unwrap him completely right?

I haven't tried any fitted swaddles before, but am seriously considering buying the Wrap Me Up one:
http://www.thesleepstore.co.nz/shop/Swaddling+Wraps/Fitted+easy+wraps/Wrap+Me+Up+Swaddle.html
I like that the hands can come up a bit, but not enough to startle, and there is no way the hands can escape.

We had a Kiddapotomus one but C could get out of it right from the beginning. He was too small for the Miracle Blanket for ages as he was prem but he LOVED being wrapped so when he was big enough I tried it and that was the first night he slept through Of course, after that I was too scared to jinx myself and we used the MB till C was 6mo when DH put his foot down coz C could escape and was waking up at 6am with cold legs
I went out and bought a spare once I knew we'd be using it every night because we did have the odd occasion where C wet through all his bedding ... I would wait till you know whether bubs likes the wrap before you buy more than one of anything though.

Mum2Ella - I have a plain white fleece one with a little blue edging on the velcro part, and I just realised I also have a blue miracle blanket that you can have too. No charge, but we could maybe meet for coffee at Glenfield if you like? Flick me a PM in any case and we can sort something out.

thanks Hippymama- will PM you
Treen- I would probably wait to see if bubs likes it, but have a couple of stretchy flat wraps available as back ups (I know when Ella was having a particularly messy day I used to go through a couple in one day).

I have a miracle wrap and find it great, DD is 10 weeks. We have made do with one but 2 would be great for those days when washing takes ages to dry. I managed to change her without unwrapping but have just started to use it with a sleeping back so need to unwrap her now.
I just used normal square wraps to start with and still use them just for day sleeps.

We used both the Cocooi and the miracle blanket.
The Cocooi will last far longer than 5kg. I would say at least till 3 months for an average baby (my girl was small and fit it till about 5 months when we stopped using it as she could wiggle out of it). When they become too long for it you can use it without the leg part.
We then moved her into the miracle blanket. These are great, and much more wiggle proof.
I would say, if you can afford it get both. The miracle blanket may seem huge on a newborn. And the cocooi is nice and and warm and goes in the capsule/pushchair.

We have two miracle blankets - i have found that it is too warm in our house to use them at the moment though! I used them at the hosptial though and I thought they were fantastic.

I have a miracle blanket now and it's fabulous. Although my monster has got her arms out twice and often has her legs out. But she seems to be able to get out of anything and usually it keeps her secure.
