Topic: Hammocks and Bassinettes Posted: 21 January 2010 at 9:42am |
I know there are a few posts about hammocks and I read through them all last night. But my question is did you only use the hammock or did you use the bassinette aswell? I have pretty much decided we are going to get one for number 2 but a few people said that they found baby wouldn't sleep on a flat surface once it had slept in the hammock. I would proberly have the baby sleep alot of its naps in the buggy as we will be out and about alot with the 3 year old.
also did you use the gogo bags once they got a little older in the hammock this is going to be a autumn winter baby.

We used the hammock until DS was 4 months old (no bassinette). I was told that there might be some difficulty with the transition to the cot as well - but we had no problems at all (even though I was really nervous about it).
Having said that, I have always brought DS into bed with me in the mornings - where he will sleep from around 5am-7am - so I guess that got him used to sleeping on a flat surface...
We were still wrapping DS while he was in the hammock (winter baby too) - and only started using the sleeping bags once we moved him into the cot.

thanks Josica, just a bit worried about wrapping as ds hated being swaddled so we just tucked the blankets around him until we got the gogo bag at about 3 months. don't want to lay blankets over the baby and it pull them up over its head or something!!

I borrowed a hammock with a stand to try with DD2 but found it quite low to the ground, and didn't like bending over so much. So we switched her over to the bassinette which was up a bit higher, and thus easier to manage. Transition from hammock to bassinette was no problem, it made no real difference in sleeping patterns / habits as far as we could tell.
We wrapped for both the hammock and the bassinette, and then the cot, but have just gone cold turkey on the wrap in favor of a sleeping bag as DD2 has started rolling over in her sleep.

We used a hammock (no bassinett) but mainly for day sleeps downstairs. We only used it for about 4 months cos he got too long for it, but well worth the investment (Ebay).
I didnt use gogo bags in the hammock, usually we just wrapped him or just had a blanket over him.

We exclusively hammock slept until (at 2 months) DD just wouldn't settle as easily and woke herself - so we just tried the cot (although I didn't want my 'little' baby to go into her 'big' baby bed) and she transitioned no worries - she's slept like a dream since we transfered her.

Jack slept in the hammock during the day and a bassinette at night. He was using both until 5mths when he moved into the cot.
I intended to do the same with Ben but his naps during the day got quite bad so moved him to the cot during the day and they improved!
