Topic: slowed growth + hospital appointment = ? Posted: 22 January 2010 at 12:51pm |
well I ended up with a urgent scan last night and today am told my little ladys growth has slowed right down
She is usually in the 60-75%ile but the scan lastnight she was only in the 30%ile despite being 3054g or 6lb 11.7oz
now the midwife rang and told me this then said she's put through a referral to the hospital and its now up to them to make a decision if they want to see you or not
well Literally 5 minutes later the hospital called and I have an appointment with them on Monday morning!
What should I expect? do I take a bag in-case they want to admit me? will they induce?
Im freaking out as I really don't know what to expect!
help! please someone tell me what to expect!

I'm sorry I can't really help, but what about your midwife? Surely she'll be able to give you an idea on what to expect?
I hope it all goes well

A friend of mine had to have a growth scan with her 2nd (on her 1st's 2nd b'day too!) then she got sent up to the hospital during his birthday party to be assessed. They sent her home for the night but she had to be induced the next day and baby was born the day after that. He was 6lb born at 38 weeks.

I was referred to the hospital at about 32 weeks for regular appointments and growth scans, went in for a scan at 36 weeks and was told straight after that I would be delivering that day - so a bit of a shock! It was in the morning, I hadn't had breakfast, had nothing with me and they wouldn't let me eat anything because they were pretty sure I'd end up having a c-section. Rang DH and mum whilst on the monitor, ended up delivering 'naturally' at 9pm that night after being induced. My boy's growth had pretty much stopped, my bp was up, my weight was down and his movements had slowed right down to where they wanted to get him out asap.
I would take a small bag with you just in case they want to induce then and there. I was given syntocin and had my waters broken at 4pm because Blake's hr was dropping too low with each contraction. I was also being monitored continuously so was on my back pretty much the whole day.
HTH and that your appt goes well. Blake was only 4lb 6 but was healthy other than being small.

that seems like they have jumped on it very early. i was born overdue and perfectly healthy at 5lb. i guess they are just being uber careful. id go to the appt as its better to keep an eye on things but it doesnt sound that small to me. it all sounds very scary but im sure they'll take great care of you and whatever outcome you get will e the best one for you and your baby. good luck :)

All the best for your appointment hun. I would take your bag with you just in case. Better to have it with you and not need it, than leave it behind and need it.

I would take a bag just in case. Its good they want to double check everything and I'm sure its all fine but it never hurts to be prepared. I ended up being admitted after a routine BP check, but had my bag in the car just in case.

Hugs Trish. How frustating you're still waiting for MW to come back to you with the other test results.
Definitely take a bag with you to your appointment. There's nothing worse than going to the hospital without one, and having to rely on your hubby to bring some clothes, undies and toiletries in for you - they never get it right!!

I saw the OB as Jake had gone from 50-60 percantile to 3rd.... They checked my bloods and bloodflow to and from placenta and booked another scan for 2 weeks time. Same thing repeated the following fortnight and the following fortnight Jake was fine but I had PE and was induced the next morning.
There are so many variables, but take a bag....

well midwife finally rang about 15 minutes ago, apparently bloods were all fine except the ferritin so she said she would send me a prescription for iron tablets, then I reminded her I was already on iron x2 daily!!
I then said I have hospital on monday morning and what should I expect. well she didn't know
she said it could be just a checkup with a follow-up scan, it could be about induction, could be they wont let me go over 40 weeks
she said she doesn't know.
Im like so should I pack a bag, should I expect to have the baby next week? should I except to come home same day
well she doesn't know.

I know you are stressed out and have had issues with your MW but in reality she genuinely doesn't know as it will completely depend on what the scan says and also on the specialist that you see as everyone is sooo different.
I personally would just pack a bag and have DH on call just incase.

Yeah like peanut said, just pack a bag and have plans in place to be ready for induction. They won't know anything more until your seen at the hospital so just be prepared for both options (staying and coming home) and try to relax a bit while ya can cause who knows you maybe holding ya bubs in a few days or a few weeks, either way relaxing is a good thing

I think I'd pack a bag and leave it in the car so I didn't feel stink if it weren't needed. And I think I'd choose to take my DH with me to the appt for moral support even if it turned into nothing.
Good luck. At least if Adele arrives next week, she'll only be 2wks early - not 13!!

Take a bag chicky.......I had to go and be monitored 10 days before J was born because of pain along my cs scar and I ended up having contractions while on the monitor, got admitted and was told there was a 95% chance I was having the baby that night (well they got that wrong lol). All I had with me was a drink, a book and my lip balm and cell phone. Was in for 12 hours and DH had to bring things after work.

She had her appointment, OB did a stretch and sweep and sent her home, she had some cramping and tightenings when she got home, then again last night but is still in one piece this morning.
