Does anyone get ther warrants done here? I usually do and I like it because I can get it done while I wait and I get to go and read a magazine etc while I wait.

I went yesterday and the guy got ME to drive down, flick all my lights, indicators, pop boot, bonnett all the drama and then lifted the car up to look underneath while I was still in it.

I still paid my $50 and I had to help

Is that common practise these days?

Not a major at all I was just quite surprised by this....

When I've used VTNZ in the past I definetly didn't need to help. I'd be inclined to ring head office and speak to someone there. i would have thought that health and safety standards would mean no-one is allowed in the workshop area And lifting the car with you in it is surely a no-no

Some of them do if they dont have another staff member around to help them or a wall to check it against. Makes it quicker.

I remember having to do it when I first started driving, so I had no idea and just thought it was normal. But I think I would refuse now! You shouldn't have to help them out, and am sure there's an OSH thing in there somewhere surely?!

Never had that! We have yellow lines at our VTNZ that we are not allowed to cross!

Iv only had to go there once for a sticker removal and they made me do everything, but on the brake machine thing i apparently wasnt braking hard enought so the man had to get in and do it.

I had to do it the down here when i went years ago and DP use to do it at the one in chc (although he knows all the guys in there and they know he is a WOF inspector and nosey)

If your not happy doing it then i wouldnt but otherwise i dont see a problem. Its not dangerous being in the car being jacked up or lifted on a hoist. I dont like driving over a pit so could understand safety issues around those (we had on in our garage) but doesnt sound like they had those.

Since VTNZ dont actually fix the problems with your car they have very little in their actual workshops so dunno why health and safety would put in to many restrictions.

Been a long time since ive been to one tho now that DP does all the WOFs at his work

edited cos i read it after i posted and it sounded snarky and wasnt supose to

I didn't mind doing it. The brake testing bit was a bit freaky and driving over the pit. The guy did get it done really fast though.

Down in Wellington at the one by the train station there have been a couple of times when they've got us to drive down and do all the flicking and popping etc. Other times (usually when they aren't busy) they get another person to do it.

But at the Porirua one it seems to be the opposite!!
