Topic: Surgery booked for Tuesday... Posted: 06 December 2006 at 6:46pm |
Well that was bl*ody quick! We got a letter saying Sienna is having her surgery next Tuesday at 7.30am. Not sure if that means we have to go in Mon night, or if 7.30am is our arrival time, or the time of the actual surgery, I have to ring the booking clerk tomorrow for more details.
And just to prove when it rains it pours (more like a hurricane!) Mercedes has a tummy bug and has been awake since 3am pretty much non stop screaming and refusing to feed. Unfortunately there is nothing Ican do to help her except perservere with the feeding to keep her hydrated until the bugs pass thru.
Hand up who wants my life? I am so up for swapping!

good luck with sienna's surgery, it's good they could fit her in so quickly and i hope sienna gets better really quickly.

Thinking of you and the girls, Emma... all the best for this!
Oh - check how long Sienna has to be nil-by-mouth for... when Josiah had a general last year, we were told by the hospital he was to be nil from midnight, but Nat's aunt is a paediatric nurse (at that hospital) and said he could be nil from 2am. His proceedure was a 7:30am start too.

Emma, what can I do to help? Send me email and let me know. Em goes to the babysitter on Tuesday afternoon so I can come over and help (or look after Maya if you don't have someone). When will Sienna come home from the hospital? Can you stay in with her?

Well we have more details. We have to be at the hospital on Tues at 7.30 and her surgery will be some time that morning, but the nurse said they like to do the little babies first off so hopefully she will be in pretty quickly. She has to be nil by mouth from 4am which shouldn't be too bad, I will just give her a formula feed then as it seems to last longer than the breastmilk and she won't be due to feed again until 7ish so should be able to make her hold out.
The nurse also said we should plan to be in hospital 5 days ( ) that way anything less is a bonus. And the Multiple Birth Club have been brilliant, one of the mums has lent me a single Mountain Buggy with a carrycot attachment so that I can sleep Mercedes in that. I had planned to just put them both in one hospital cot but the nurse said that Sienna will be on oxygen for a while after surgery and will have tubes etc. so they won't allow Mercedes to co-sleep with her. So the basinette will be great as I only have a HUGE double buggy. Plus some of the other MBC mums have rung me with advice and stories on how they survived a hospital stay with twins.
So it's all on!
Thanks for your offer of help Katherine - will email you!
And thanks everyone for your support! It really means a lot to me. Will keep you updated (of course) and might even take pics of my poor baby in hospital
PS. Mercedes tummy bug seems to have settled today, now Sienna has it, but at least I know it will pass quickly, and got a decent nights sleep last night!
