I am torn between wanting another child but also am very happy with my two & the connection they have.

Soooo am tossing up an IUD again or the injection thing that lasts ages basically so I know there is no point in getting clucky.

My question is...did it hurt going in? I'm a wuss with needles & I build it up way too much.

Also, can I use it while I'm BFing? Actually what is it's name & I'll google the Fact sheet!

Are you talking about a Mirena???

Can't say if it hurt going in as I had it put in under a general!!!

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Nope not the Mirena IUD. I'd get the cheapy Copper one

The injection/implant in your arm.

Depo provera is the injection. I was on it for a few years and it certainly worked, but I put on a lot of weight and it took 18 mths for my AF to come back after my last jab so if you were considering another at some stage in the future, that's worth thinking about as it's a common side effect.

As Mummy becks said, the Mirena is the hormone IUD.

Kel do you mean the injection you need to get every 3 months or the implant that's in for (I think) 5years? Isn't that one Implanon?

I was on Depo (injection) for about a year while I was at uni. I put on about 10kg while I was on it which was a LOT for me at the time. Didn't take too long for AF to come back when I went off it.

I have a Mirena, but it's put in the same way as a normal copper IUD hehehe

It was more like a smear for me...wasn't too bad at all really. And haven't had any side effects (except maybe extreme moodiness, if you ask DH), and also haven't had an AF since it was put in. I also like that it can be easily taken out when we decide to TTC the next one/s.

the implant thing is called jadelle there is info on it here

i am also wanting one of these two options, i had the iud for a few years, the first one i had i got pregnant with so after that pregnancy ended i got another one put in. My periods were pretty heavy with it in and in the end they were getting quite sore so i had it removed and got pregnant 1 or 2 months after.

ETA: it says this on that site i linked to regarding breastfeeding
:JADELLE and Breast-feeding

If you are breast-feeding and want to use JADELLE implants, you should discuss this with your doctor. Small amounts of levonorgestrel (the hormone in JADELLE implants) will be excreted in breast milk. Studies have not shown any significant effects on the growth or other development of breast-fed babies whose mothers used other levonorgestrel implants from the sixth week after childbirth. There is no experience of the use of levonorgestrel in nursing mothers at an earlier stage during breast-feeding.:

I have also tried the depo - injection and put alot of weight on with it

They don't always hurt - I didn't have any pain at all with the IUD going in, barely felt a thing.

I had an IUD put in 10 weeks post partum with no numbing (they didn't even mention it as an option) it was bit crampy as they need to open the cervix a little bit but on the whole it wasn't that much worse than a smear, just took a bit longer to do. I certainly wouldn't say it was painful to have it done.

i can't recall exactly but i think they put the iud in just as your period is finishing or has just finished that way the cervix is open a little bit and it make it easier.

I didn't have pain relief for mine, it was a bit uncomfortable and crampy after wards but not too bad.

i think they recommend that you take a couple of panadol before you go to get it inserted.

Yeah I know that the IUD doesn't hurt, mine went in easy peasy at 6 weeks & then out again easy peasy at 12 weeks but I'm not sure if i want to go through all of that again.

Hmmm I think Tania linked what I'm thinking of but seeing that it does do that with BFing I might give that a miss.

Maybe I should just have a baby

So I guess I'm asking if anyone had the implant? Did it hurt? & I guess you are stuck with it for 5 years or can it be removed?

question for those that had the iud, did they have to make a wee cut in your cervix/womb to insert it?
the hospital did when they did mine which is why it hurt - enough for me to be in tears. I then bleed for over a week after having it done

I didn't have anything cut when I had mine in (well not that I am aware of). I had mine put in under a general so didn't know what was going on. I know I had my cervix dilated a bit to have a good clean out again when I had mine put in.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Nope. Cervix was still soft enough. I have been advised if I get one put in again to do it when you have your AF so your cervix is open.

No cutting here either!! It was a wee bit crampy when they dilated my cervix, but mainly because of the scar tissue I have from previous surgery on it. They say to get it when you have your AF, but of course after you have a baby there's no guaranteeing when it will turn up, so they just do it.

ok now I feel strange lol
she showed me the scissors which were like long handled things, and as she went to make the incision I was told to cough a few times, after the cut was made she then put the iud in which was held by a pair of tweezers
It made for when I had it removed very painful too as it was 'buried' in the womb wall
