I'm really bummed too!! So you're not the only one. I hadn't actually thought of ringing them but I figured that we wouldn't be able to get one since DS is 10 months, it always seems to be the way that these things work

On their website, and I'm pretty sure on the ads they say it as well - that it will be given at their 5 month visit along with toothpaste...
Plunket website re free toothbrush/toothpaste

It does seem a bit silly though that they can't give it to all kids up to a year or something so kids don't miss out, but then that would cost them money etc and can't have that now can we !

Huh, we got one at our 5 month Plunket check up and that was mid 2008. If it's Plunket distributing then I think it's fair enough that they limit them to receiving them at a certain appointment - are people upset because they didn't get them at the 5 month check?

I got a toothbrush and toothpaste from plunket when R was about 7 months. All my forum buddys had got theres first (R is the youngest) so at his 7m check i asked and was giving a plain green toothbrush that a 5yo would use and toothpaste for 6yrs plus. I ended up going out and buying R a more suitable toothbrush....

I havent seen any ads yet but is there some fancy expensive toothbrush they only give to 5m olds?? When did they start doing that?

R is only 11m now and 4m ago when i got his toothbrush my PN told me they usually dont give them out till 9m when they have more teeth.

We got one at our 5 month check up, and again at the 10 month one! Might be different in different places? They might have figured I didn't get one at the 5 month one cause she had no teeth then? Who knows - definitely dumb that they won't give you one!

I guess it is some promotion they have started to do and have to limit it to 5 months otherwise every child who has been under plunket will be entitled. Since babies generally get teeth around 6 months they figure it is best to prepare parents so they are ready.

Still a bit rough for those who have babies a little bit older.

Well I haven't even seen Plunket since Ollie's 6 week check, so I'm more bummed that they haven't bothered to come to us again.

We had one visit with plunket @ 6wks and then didnt bother with them again as the lady was so rude. GP does an excellent job. You think that they would automatically send out a voucher or something? Even the GP should have them for the kiddies.

At antenatal class we were told it's gone down hill a lot because funding got cut. My Mum and MIL were shocked to learn that you don't get many visits as when my mum had me about 20 yrs ago you got seen almost every week!

When I was born 30 years ago they visited my mum weekly til i was 3 months old, then monthly til I was 5. They should be fully government funded. End of story.
