No your not over protective it just sounds like your friends partner is finding problems where there aren't any and being over sensitive. I can remember many a time when the kids where babies that I said no to people holding them as they were asleep or just needed a rest from being held.
Babies like cuddles but they also need a break every now and then as well. Plus they can be harder to settle if they have been held to much. Which is probably something only a parent can understand.
hopefully she will come over and you can clear it up butit seems to me thatthe problem lies with her not you!

I think this probably has alot more to do with her own insecurities than you or anything you have done. I know its hard but try not to take it on board- sounds like she just likes drama and has some issues that she needs to sort out.
I don't think it sounds like you are being over-protective at all!

I have done the same there are certain people I won't let hold Mikey and other's I am happy with that is my choice and if they want to take it personally that is thir problem not mine. You have every right to do what you did and they can just sod off if they are not happy.

I agree with what everyone else has said!Is she a Mother? If not then she wont understand til she is! To me it sounds childish and petty! Id be telling her to grow up!!! You have more other things to worry about im sure! If you do that maybe she might realise shes being a drama queen and get over it!

Sounds like you have been perfectly reasonable...while others might see our babies at totally adorable and cute and want to cuddle them....they don't have to then deal with the end result when our babies are over tired and grouchy from being passed around!!
You are not being over-protective at all...just doing what is right for you and your baby...if she had a kid herself she would surely understand that!

I agree, it's jolly hard to settle an over-cuddled baby but a lot of people don't understand or forget (as in my case with FIL). She'll probably get more cuddles as he gets older but in the meantime, she just needs to know that it's nothing personal but Benjy doesn't like to be cuddled by too many different people. Since you're the one who has to deal with the end result, she needs to accept your decisions and not spout off about it.

Maybe she feels left out? Is she someone who you spent a lot of time with before baby? I think she is being a bit OTT, but she may be feeling a bit sad about losing you, and then not having had the chance to hold your baby when others have.... might sound silly to you cos you know it's not on purpose, but sometimes we feel upset by really irrational things.

Whatever reason it is for your friend to be so upset, I'm sure it's more to do with her own issues rather than your actions in this case. I don't think you were being over-protective or rude, sounds like you were just looking out for your baby. I hope your friend can sort out whatever it is making her feel so bad about this, and comes right soon.

Sounds pretty fair! Good on ya. .........hmmmm.... there's someone close to me who I care about very much, and she'd do that sort of thing too... usually it'd explode into something rediculously huge, and then later on I'd find out she'd stopped taking some nice little meds that help her out quite a bit!
I have some friends who still haven't held Ella yet and she's 2 months old... heck, I'm not going to wake a sleeping baby or pass around a tired one if I can help it. Some people who've not had babies just need this explained. Then again, so do some people who HAVE had them! Force be with you, Mel. Good on ya for your patience.
