latching on ............

oh boy am I ready to give up on the breast. I had the la leche person come yesterday and I am more confused now. Hes not getting latching on straight away and the way she showed me to do it I am so uncomfortable and still can't get him on. This morning I was almost in tears cause I really want it to work and I had no trouble with the other two. I have plenty of milk from just colecting from other boob (this is while hes feeding on the other) since yesterday afternoon I hv filled up an ice cube tray. I would like to try him with a bottle of expressed milk but scared he will get nipple confusion (as he has a dummy too)
Thing is when offered the second boob hes straight on no worries.
So questions:
Anyone else have same problem and when/if it sorted it out?
Those who have expressed and fed with bottle did it create even more problems with latching on the boob?

Its not like he isn't gaining weight as he eventually gets on just that 10-15 minutes of 'mucking about' drives us both mad.
I was going to go shopping today but the amount of time its taken t feed i just can't be botherend now and i am put off incase he wants feeding while out as it takes so long and when he muckc about not only am i exposed all the time but i leak like mad.

We had issues with latching for the first few weeks too. Sometimes it would take 45mins to get him on, by which time mummy and baby were both howling with frustration. Eventually we discovered that my nipples were slightly inverted, so by using nipple guards for a week or he was able to latch, and help get them sticking out further (for want of a better term ) I'm glad I persevered, but I tell you, I was close to giving up on a daily basis. It's hard work (as you know!!), but it can, and does get better. All the best Ann

I know someone who used to double his tongue over when latching so obviously that wasn't much help.

Is he too full? Likes only foremilk? Sorry I'm mostly coming up with blanks

As for using a bottle, I used a bottle (expressed milk) once a day with my DD1 from 2wks old and there was never any probs with confusion. So I wouldn't worry about that, but I wouldn't want to do it long-term.

Yikes I don't think I have the patience to wait 4 weeks more.
Hes due to feed now and almost awake and so will try again.
I think I am more fustrated as my older two children took to the breast really easy even after my first born had been in NNU and not fed off me for a few days.

i do remember u saying u were fed up with bf not so long ago. /i expressed 80mls quite effortlessly and offer it in a bottle to Rhyley he took straight away to the bottle and drunk all of it without once pulling away or mucking about. I am going to offer breast again this feed. i knolw there is no quick fixed its just comforting to know your not alone and that it does get better.and anything that worked for others are a great help too.

I was going to say the same as Nikki, I had problems with Anastasia not taking the 1st boob offered, it sorted itself out. Found milk flow was too much or too much or a mouthful while breast so full. She did take expressed milk for a while then refused to take a bottle at all so if you want to have that option open to you use a bottle every now and then so he stays used to it. I also found it was more comfortable (less suffocating) for both of us to use football hold to feed, not so easy when out but great while at home.
