Topic: Second time labours. Posted: 20 February 2010 at 1:39pm |
Just out of curiosity. How long was your first labour and how did it start?
and how long was your second and how did it start?
and third and fourths......I you have them.
I'm just sort of seeing if it's going to be the same, shorter or longer....etc

I think there are a few thread like this
How long was your first labour and how did it start? 22 hours from first ouchy pain to birth. Days of BH's building into a more regular pattern.
and how long was your second and how did it start?
5 hours from waters breaking to birth. No warning apart from 3 really random BH's earlier in the evening.

How long was your first labour and how did it start?
From waters breaking (very first sign of labour) to birth 16hrs
and how long was your second and how did it start?
From show to birth 5.5hrs. However the sow was at 9pm and I had been having contractions building from mid-morning however they weren't that bad as I had thought they were BH!!

1st labour - waters broke, first contraction and had the bloody show all at once, Bailey born 3 1/2 hours later - 7lb
2nd labour - woke wanting to constantly go toilet then felt tightenings and cramps had to go to hospital as was only 26 weeks 5days - aidan born 10 hours later - 2lb 8oz
3rd labour - waters broken - Adele born 53 minutes later - 8lb 10oz
only had a bit of gas for labour/birth of 1st and 3rd
second one was only longer because they were trying to stop him coming! I had to have lots of medication etc but he still came :/

1st - 1 week of constant contractions, then from waters breaking to birth 6.5 hours (lots of intervention, bad birthing experience due to position, PET)
2nd - 47 hours, active (less than 10 mins apart regularly) 3 hours, waters breaking to birth about 45min. No drugs other than a bit of gas, perfect birth.
I can't believe how I could have such completely different births (and #2 was nearly a pound heavier than #1)

1st labour started at 9am with back ache, contractions started at lunch time and she was born naturally and easily (apart from the pain ) at 9:07 pm , so bout 12 hours altogether
2nd baby , contractions for a week but real labour from 12:30 in the afternoon til he was born at 4:44am , that makes it sound kinda long .
We got to the hospital at 3:30am ,I was 7cms, waters were broken , he was born at 4:44 , so not long at all !
again , natural birth .

Holy crap that is fast! Did your waters break naturally? Or did you have some build up?
That is my fear of another baby, it would come way fast.

I was at the hospital on monitoring when they examined me cause they were going to induce me with the gel and well he said he could break my waters there and then. he waited a couple of hours and came back and broke them. and yeah she was born 53 minutes later (much to everyones surprise!)

1st labour - waters broke at 5am (in bed) and she was born at 3.05pm (that day - so just over 10hrs) - 8lbs, 2 oz, had little bit of the gas
2nd labour - bout 4.5hrs, waters broke just before she came out - girl - 8lbs 9oz - no drugs
3rd labour - contractions all day, then waters broke bout 8.30pm went all night in labour with irregular contractions, went into birth centre just after 8.30am, and then got taken to hospital for emergency c-section - boy - 9lbs 6oz
4th labour - show saturday early mrning, irregular contractions all day (again), waters broke rnd 5am, and went to hospital coz had tiny bit of meconium (sp?) in it and he was born naturally at 12.50 midday sunday - 8lbs 8 oz - no drugs
So for me, i know im in labour when the contractions (like BH), give me a sore back at the same time as sore tummy. And with my boys my labours were longer especially early labour

With #1 my waters broke at 2am. Had some mild contractions, labour didn't progress so they induced me (with the drip) at 8am the following day. He was born 8pm that night. I had an epidural. 1hr 45mins pushing, ventouse birth, tore twice, lost 2 litres of blood and then couldn't stop vomiting. He had his hand beside his face so that wouldn't have helped with the tearing. lol. He was 9lb 11oz and was born at 40.3 weeks.
#2 started out much the same. Waters broke at 9am, had contractions on and off, labour didn't progress so was induced (drip again) at 10am the following day. She was born at 3pm that day. Only 3.5hrs established labour and 15mins pushing. No complications this time, just a couple of grazes. I only used gas this time. She was 8lb 1oz and was born at 39.5 weeks.
So mine turned out completely different.

ds1 - started very slowly lasted 13hrs - 7lb 2oz - 10days early
ds2 - started suddenly and lasted 50mins - 8lb 8oz - 11days late
ds3 - a bit slower to start lasted 3 or 4 hrs - 6lb 14oz - 2days later
ds4 - started very suddenly and was 2.5hrs - 9lb 5oz - exactly 2wks late
they were all very simular as waters didnt break til i was already pushing, ds2 was already out and his sac was still intact.
only with 1 & 2 did i have any show and it was both 2 days b4 labour started
ds1's labour was only long as he was posterior
and ds3 wasnt as quick coz his head was in wrong position, and all 4 came with out any intervention. though ds4 was very close

Number one - spontaneous onset contractions, 41 hours all up, 17 hours active and two hours pushing. Had an epi, she was posterior and 9lb1oz.
Number two - induced by having my waters broken and a synto drip, less than 6 hours from waters broken to delivery, about an hour and a half pushing as her head was flexed. She was 6lb8oz.
Number three - literally fell out less than 3 minutes after number two 7lb1oz.
Number four - induced again, an hour and a half from first contraction till delivery, less than 10 minutes in transition and only about 3 pushes. She literally flew into the world - one of my support crew described it like "she came out on a skateboard" . She was 7lb12oz (I think?).
Too scared to have any more, they'd probably walk out on their own .

How long was your first labour and how did it start?
Started with waters breaking and then contractions fast and furious straight away. Baby was posterior and mec in waters so went on synto and delivered exactly 12 hours later.
and how long was your second and how did it start?
Started with waters breaking and contractions started shortly after. From waters breaking to birth was 3.5 hours and was sooooooo much easier.
I found it interesting that both times my waters broke around the middle of the night.

How long was your first labour and how did it start?
Spontaneous; officially it was 3 hrs 56min BUT I was having back pain for about 12 hours before he was actually born. having said that, the night before he was born I had a bath and two panadol and the pain w ent away....which I was told meant I WASN'T in labour. LOL
how long was your second and how did it start?
I was woken out of a DEAD sleep by a contraction at about 5:45, midwife was rung at about 5:50, had to ring her back less than 10 minutes later and tell her to hurry up. LOL She arrived at about 6:30 I think (wasn't really paying attention, the backup midwife for the baby missed the birth by about 15 minutes)He was born at 7:56am.....so all up that makes it 2hrs 16min? It's all a bit of a blur,as precipitous labours usually are, but I think it was officially 1hr 26min. I don't have a copy of my notes though so don't know if she counted my labour starting from when I rang her the first (or second time) or when she arrived and realised I was actually in labour. LOL
Ooh and I actually found DS2's birth way easier than DS1's birth.....even though he was 1lb 7oz heavier, 5 cm longer and his head was 3cm bigger.

Hahahaha!!
With Keira my first contraction that almost knocked me off my feet was at 10.30pm, I gave birth to my beautiful girl at 7.55am (my mw told me to pop a panadol and call her at 9.00am, ha!) She was 10 days late and 10lb 11...
So I am very nervous about the next one!
