This week Isla has been waking after sleeping for 40 mins and then not going back to sleep. I have tried leaving her to cry but she just gets more and more wound up and wont do back to sleep. I have tried to resettle her by giving her dummy, re-wrapping her if needed, and rocking the bassinette a bit, not talking to her, but that doesnt work now either, like it used to.

She does this all day, then by the evening she is sooo tired and gets beside herself and hysertical and is really hard to settle then.

Maybe its a growth spurt? She is 8 weeks old.

Help!! Any tips greatly appriciated, thanks

Yep, definitely sounds like a growth spurt - had to feed Amelia every 2˝hrs when she was going thru them.

Yes she hit another growth spurt sorry.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Cool thanks guys. I am just hoping that its not something Im doing wrong, like that I should be leaving her to cry longer or something. Hopefully it is just a growth spurt!

Kellz .. if she is waking and not settling after about 10 mins (at this age), then she's not going to go back to sleep. My motto was always if Amelia was crying (not just grizzling) then she needed to be got up.

Ashlee has been a 40min sleeper for as long as I can remember! It's hard because it doesn't give you enough time to do what has to be done around the house with 2 hands, AND have a break!

In a way, it's good because I know if Ashlee sleeps longer than that, then something could possibly be wrong.

As Isla gets older, you might find she grows out of that a bit (as Ashlee has - now it's wake up after 40mins, have a talk to her mobile, then drift back off to sleep for another 1/2 hr-40 mins again).

And don't doubt yourself! You are doing a fab job don't feel guilty either, she's just communicating with you in the only way she knows how. You are doing your best to settle her when she's upset so that IS the right thing to do.

Blake is one of these babies altho in saying that I can usually NOW get about 2 hours of peace in the afternoon from him. Morning sleeps are a nightmare...sometimes he will sleep for 30 minutes after screaming for 15 to get to sleep and he is yawning and grizzling so he is definitley ready for it. As they get older they do learn to sleep better and I so know that feeling about getting stuff all done or even just not having to ruch around to get dressed and put on a face!!!
