I know there are losts of different standards for car sets etc. What is the minumum, or maximum what ever. Is the nz aus standard the best for NZ. Or will the europe or USA standards do. I don't really get.

We're looking at a booster seat for the grandparents cars, but can't work where to go after the convertable. Quite like to get a phil and teds tott xt or similar.

Depends on who you ask. LOL For example Australia has pretty strict standards for car seats BUT they won't approve the use of Recaro car seats which are the most safety tested car seat on the planet to some of the strictest crash tests standards anywhere.

I am pretty sure you are allowed to use any of those standards......Plunket for example rents car seats that are American and Safe& Sound is just a division of Britax UK. We have a Recaro for DS1 and DS2 is in a Britax that used to belong to DS1 that we brought over when we emigrated. DS2 is going to need a new seat........seeing as I can't get flaming Britax UK to tell me WHEN their seat expires (it's at least 7 years old now) so we'll probably go Recaro again for him. But they are a bit pricey for most people.

I'm pretty sure that stores can only sell seats approved for use in NZ so as long as you aren't importing one from Timbuktu I can't see why you can't buy what you like and can afford.

Does that help or have I confused you some more? LOL

It's a bit of a hairy subject unfortunetly, as mumtooboys pointed out it all depends who you ask - many people I have spoken to claim this that and the next thing which hasn't always been true and some of which contradicted what the last person told me

As far as I know, seats from Europe with the ECE european standards sticker can be imported and used here. Seats from the US generally can't be, unless previously approved in NZ which are seats generally sold through outlets/distributers etc.

After looking into seats a little more recently we have decided to get a seat sent from Sweden, which will keep DD RFing till she is well past four. It is a Britax Multitech. ATM we have a Cosco Scenera as it has a longer RFing limit than alot of other seats available here and quite frankly it was all we could afford at the time. The Multitech is costing roughly $700NZD - we have just put aside $$ for the last 5mths to pay for it and it will be sent to Italy for our arrival there. The seat fits from 9kg to 25kg RFing. We went through this site

www.carseat.se

There are some very knowledgeable ladies on TNN that I'm sure will be more than happy to answer anymore indepth questions you have.
