My DD has only been taking, on average about 640mls a day of formula. She sleeps right through the night (10-12hours) and in her awake times is chirpy and smiley. She has reflux which has become quite bad recently.

For about a week she was taking up around 750mls, but then it dropped again this week.

She only gained 600grms in a month, the Plunket nurse didn't seem too concerned.
DD seems full and contended after a feed, but I'm worried about her weight gain....should I be? Or does this sound perfectly normal??

600 gms in a month is perfect... 150 per week.... thats what they want!

Jake was taking about 600ml (hard to gauge as he is bf) per day at that age and it didnt really go up...

Whats on the tin is a guide only, not all babies come from the same mould and some have small apetites...

All sounds good to me

The best piece of advice I had was to think about yourself. Some days you feel hungry and some days you don't. It's just the same for your baby.

The weight gain is just perfect. I so stressed aout about DD#1 that I ended up with formula feeding her as my breast milk dried up due to stress. With DD#2 I was a lot less worried about weight gain and have managed to feed her to 7 months.

One thing I learnt is that the "guidelines" are very flexible. We have a lot of different sizes genetically in our country. Parts of our population are quite large and other parts are quite small.   The best thing is to see if your baby is healthy and happy. If this is the case then you are doing a great job as a mum. Disregard those "guidelines" and go by how your baby is. Remember they all get to the "right" size at some point.

The girls only take approx 800ml of formula per day, which is what it has been for a while, and they are happy and contented little girls. My Plunket nurse (who I love) says that that is the important thing - a hungry baby won't be happy and contented.

150g weight gain a week is perfect!!

My DD takes about 500ml a day, when they want her on 1000ml - there's no way she'll take it, she'd rather starve. She's never liked milk since the reflux kicked in at 2 weeks though.

But... she doesn't sleep through - 5 times a night she generally wakes. Not cool at all!

Some days DS will finish every bottle (4x240ml) other days it's about 1/2 of every bottle.
I used to worry on the days he'd only drink 1/2 a bottle and try and slip in an extra bottle, then he'd only dring 1/4. Now I just give him a bottle when he looks hungry and let him sort out the rest.
