Hey Azza, from my understanding you can stay for up to 48 hours after vaginal birth and at lest 3 days after c section.
Obviously depending on how the birth went there are variabales to this but if its straight forward then thats usually the plan.
You can leave earlier for a vaginal birth and either go home or go to birth care but Id imagine there is a minimum time for a c section - before you can go anywhere else
Hey, I had two straight forward births and both times stayed three nights. I had my own room and never felt as though I was being hurried out. I definately had two good experiences at North Shore Hospital. You can get transferred to the birthing unit at Helenville which I have heard is lovely or Birthcare in Parnell (which you will have to pay for). But for the short amount of time you are actually in there and if you have a supportive midwife then North Shore is great.
Good luck.
I had Ella at NSH and had a staight forward VB and stayed there 3 nights and it was a positive experience.
This time around I am birthing there and then transferring up to Warkworth birthing centre. NSH is only about 10 mins away from our home, but this time around I decided I wanted to stay in a birthing centre type environment and have only heard positive things about Warkworth.
Single or double rooms at NSH.. no transfers.. they have upgraded their mat suite and its not too shabby. They have a section down the back (further away from mw station) that they keep for 2nd/3rd time mummas (if there is room there) but will obviously put you nearer them if you have section. They will try and give you your own room if you have had a section too... though I have heard of a couple of women having a shared room but that is only if the single rooms are already full....
They do tours if you want to go and check out the facilities
Thats interesting, I was only asking my midwife about it the week before last - 3 nights would be fab!
I have heard really good stuff about warkworth - and its free isnt it??
I just got my info pack from NSH - so I must be registered to birth there already
They have free breastfeeding classes 7 til 9 pm on the third monday of every month
Tours are Wednesday 6.30 pm and Sat 3.00pm leaving fromt he 2nd floor foyer.
For waitak mums sat 10am and fortnightly thursdays 6.30pm
Only thing is says about lenght of stay is discharge is by 11am on the day. Maybe it depends if they are busy or not and how many babes you have had
I have heard really good stuff about warkworth - and its free isnt it??
Yes it's free.....I can't wait to go up there, it looks so peaceful and the toddler playground will be great for entertaining Ella when she comes to visit.
Oh wow, I just saw how far along you are! Guess thats not so far away then. Hope you get to stay for a while and relax before you are dealing with a toddler and a new born. Sounds lovely
well I wondered how real that was, the girl next door just had a baby and it was really close to dinner time when they got home, and we are only 7 minutes from NSH
and she only spent 1 night in
NSH is really nice if you get the new bit. I was moved there as I became lower dependency after my C. The first C sect I think I was in there from the start. Not sure why.
Obviously I can't comment on the V-birth discharge time but for the C-sect I stayed 5 days both times (in Mon - out Fri) and they were actually surprised I wanted to go and said I could stay longer.
I've heard great things about Warkworth. Including partners can stay over and the meals are apparently really good. I don't know if they are equipped to deal with post C patients or not.
My friend just had a c-section and transfered to Warkworth within 24 hours I think. I am pretty sure birth centers accept c-section patients as long as they are only on panadol and dont need any actual cares....

Whats the new bit bobbie? I thought the whole thing was upgrade?... I had a private room (own bath) right by the mw station... (so the entrance furtherest from the birth suites) is that new or old?
