Topic: TWINS! Advise needed please Posted: 25 March 2010 at 9:44pm |
Hi Everyone
Had a scan with our wonderful OBGYN yesterday at 10 week mark and discovered we are having twins due in October 2010! Surprise!
A surprise as looks like they are identical (confirm this at nucal scan) and thats not hereitary. I am a fratenal twin ... now that is hereditary!
We currently have a beautiful soon to be 2 year old daughter.
I guess I am looking for advise from anyone who is in similar boat or been there done that.
Are twins really scary? I am very much a routine girl so know I can do it but its like being a new mum all over again not knowing what is going to happen!!!! How do people cope with a toddler AND two new borns?

This will be an important Ohbaby thread for you to join into in future Lucysmummy -

And, if you haven't already - you should pop into the due in Oct 10 thread, I'm sure they'd love for you to join in there too.
Congratulations!

Definitely come into the twins & triplets thread....there are a few mums who have other children older than their twins who will be able to answer any questions!! I'm not a lot of help as my twins are our first, but if you're routine based you will have an advantage....routines rock LOL

Oh, I'm not sure what part of the coujntry you're in, but I would also recommend joining your local Multiple Birth Club - they are great with support, meetups etc. We also hired our capsules through them (so much cheaper than hiring/buying from anywhere else).

Congrats!! My cousin has twins they are no 3 and 4 of her 5 boys and she is like you a routine girl and manages like a pro. I swear her place is always more organised than mine and I only have 1 boy.

Congratulations!!!! Twins are awesome, I have 3 yr old identical boys!!
As your DD is a pre-schooler, you will qualify for 240hrs homehelp, that you can use during the first year after babies are born!! You need to find someone to be the home help, but winz pays them. And you can use it however you want.....all in the first couple of months, or once a week cleaner for a year...however YOU need the help. Definately contact your local multipe birth club as they can help you get through the WINZ system (I've heard not all winz staff are aware of the homehelp ) plus some areas have ante-natel classes for twins.
Mine were my first too so can't help with organising a toddler and newborns, but I'm 20wks with #4 (so 2nd after twins) so it can't be all bad
You have joined a special club!!

Hi LucysMummy
Congrats on Twins. Twins are super special!!
And as mumoftwins said, you will get 240 hours of home help from WINZ which is not income tested. What part of NZ are you?
Come join us in the twins/triplet thread, as there is some other mummies who are pregnant with twins now.
Congrats again!
