Topic: Affordable digital camera?? Posted: 31 March 2010 at 5:01pm |
Our camera has crapped out so we need a new one. We only take routine pics of the kids etc so don't need a really flash one. i don't really want to spend any more than say $300. Does anyone have one they can recommend? I thought I might be able to pick one up at the Easter sales. Oh and i would like it to do video aswell. our old one was a Sony Cybershot 5.1Mp (had it about 5 years)and I see there are alot of 12mp out there now!

We have a Sony Cybershot 7.2MP, bought it a year ago and love it! It was about $189 from Dick Smith - can't remember if it was on special at the time... just use it to take routine pics too, and it does videos

MP don't really mean a lot unless you plan to blow your photos up pretty huge. Most people will be fine with a 8MP. Unless your doing real photography shots I wouldn't bother spending the extra to go 12MP or so...

MP dont mean much at all fullstop, its the shutter speed that makes a crisp picture
I have a Canon, professional photography camera and its only 10MP but with a very fast shutter speed.
My MIL said it cost $400ish $$ a few years back, she has passed it onto to me.

There's a Samsung 12mp camera on www.catchoftheday.co.nz today for $99 (on the left hand side, not the main deal).
Don't know if it's any good. You could do a Google search for reviews?
That aside, Consumer always rates Canon the best for compact and ultra compact cameras, so if you can pick up a cheap Canon, that would serve you well. I have owned four Canons and loved every single one of them (I am an upgrade queen!).

Have you looked at 1day today? There's a 10mp camera (Casio) for $150. Not really a camera brand (I thought) but it's a pretty good deal!
